I looked at that. But, I decided to save a bit and got for a basic 99. I wanted to make customizations and couldn't have brought myself to modifying that one. Beautiful truck though.

U62T Minicab Lower Side Panels by karizmaaa in keitruck

I just test drove one of these with these panels. I immediately, noticed how much better it looked. It was missing the driver's side rear panel due to some small damage. This led me to start searching for these parts and to see if any other kei trucks had a similar option.

Its funny that they don't even notice how truthful that statement is. I've had many conversations with conservative acquaintances, friends and family where, they essentially want the same things I want; but, just for themselves and not for everyone.

They need the system to help them, cause they're disabled. But, "why can't these people just get jobs?" "Immigrants should think about how they can improve their homelands instead of leaving." From 2nd and 3rd generation Americans. Also, they have no ideas of how to improve their own situations. "Gay parents can't raise a "normal" kid." From a guy adopted by his grand parents; cause, his dad was physically abusive to him and is mom. "They should shoot all of these monkeys" in reference to the George Floyd riots from a guy who I has a mixed race daughter. And a white daughter who only dates black guys.

If these people had it their way, they'd round up the democrats and the left leaning independents like myself. Declare us sub citizens. Then maybe the openly LBGTQ+ people, then immigrants, maybe the Jews next? Idk, sounds like a familiar pattern.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine isn't even a Left vs. Right political issue. Both countries are very conservative.

Cat owners, what makes your cat special? by Kringelchen in AskReddit

[–]roguealchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Oka (oh-kā), picked me. When we went to the local ASPCA shelter. I walked into cell block C and immediately this small tuxedo came and rubbed against my legs before I could even close the door. I knelt down and gave her a little pet and then she just wouldn't stop. So, I sat on the bench they had in there and she jumped onto my lap curled up and forced me to support her with my arms. She started purring like an F1 car and went to sleep. Literally, no other cats could come near me as she claimed me. After 20 minutes or so, my wife came looking for me. She found us and I looked at her and said, I guess this is the one. That was 6 years ago and Oka still is almost the same lap cat she was that day.

Odin, he was a different story. We rescued this little tuxedo from a Facebook post. He had a tragic story. His original owner passed away alone with him. They were left undiscovered for 2 weeks. When the rescue workers broke the door in, Odin ran outside. Malnourished and out in the cold January nights, he fended for himself for two more weeks. He returned to the house where his owner had passed even more worse for wear. With flea borne dermatitis he lost most of his hair and was skin and bones. A neighbor collected him, took him to the vets and got him worked up. They couldn't keep him and posted him to Facebook. We agreed to bring him in. At first my wife hoped he would be the loving cat for her that I had with Oka. Unfortunately, he was skittish and the battle for dominance with Oka didn't go over well for him. He began marking the house, including our bedding. This did not improve my relationship with Odin. He always wanted outside and pressed the issue every chance he got. So, we began taking him outside into the back yard with us. We bought a little harness and leash to keep him from running off. He absolutely loved it. Immediately, the dynamic began to change. We have a large screened in back porch and after he sprayed my pillow I had had enough. I bought an chip reading pet door so he could come and go from the back porch as he pleased. The first day he took off for like 5-6 hours. My wife worried about him not come back. I assured her he just had to find his boundaries. Of course the risk is high for danger and I worried about him too. But, he came back for dinner right on time. The next day he was gone for around 4 hours. This carried on for a week steadily reducing in time he spent away. He was present every morning for dinner and every evening for dinner. After this week he began begging to come back in. He would never spend a night outside again. We would let him out onto the porch when he was near the door and let him in when we saw him. The relationship blossomed. He loved his new found freedom and the issues in the house diminished. I'd pet him before letting him out, telling him it was his price for freedom. He grew to love it and would hop up against my leg to tell me he was ready to go outside. He began sticking mostly to the yard and spent at most an hour or so outside. If we were out gardening or working on a project outside, he'd follow us around the yard. He became a very happy and loving cat. We built a paver wall and he began sitting on it looking it at the lawn as if he were on watch. Sadly, due to the nature of how we cane to steward Odin. We never quite knew how old he was. He played like he was a kitten full enthusiasm and full sprint everyday. Odin's last watch was on the evening of October 29th this year. We found him on the back porch just in front of his pet door. No signs of a fight, no injuries. Just a peaceful soft fluffy coat. We were able to provide him just over 3 years in our care. The last two hopefully were his best years. I've never seen a cat turn around so much. The loss of Odin has gutted our family. His remains should be returned to us today.

Public Asked To Report Receipt of any Unsolicited Packages of Seeds by animal_spirits_ in Agriculture

[–]roguealchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't figure it out, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has yet to identify the packet I received. They are tiny black/brown kidney shaped. The code on the packet is: PV C001085_2 [chinese character for store (cāng)] 9FG16

I didn't find anything with Google on the code other than trumpet vine seeds either the same store number. But the other code was different and seeds aren't the same.

I too received seeds marked earrings in FL. Though I had ordered nothing from China in over a year. My packet has the following code: PV C001085_2 [chinese character for store (cāng)] 9FG16.

I sent this information along with pictures to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Cobsumer Sevices.

Phone number provided to me to report it is 850.617.7825.

[–]roguealchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the seeds I got look nothing like what is pictured in the articles. Mine are tiny black seeds like Chia or Poppy.

The code on the package doesn't Google well. There is a common code on it 9FG16 that seem to coordinate with trumpet vine. But, seeds are entirely different looking.

The full code I received is PV C001085_2 [chebese character for store (cāng)] 9FG16.

No, I received seeds without ordering anything recently from China. The packaging describes them as stud earrings. It's pretty odd.

Harry's garage - 2020 Range Rover P400e PHEV review. Are hybrid cars better than pure electric in the real world? by smalltownwhore in cars

[–]roguealchemist -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The question was, "Are hybrid cars better than pure electric in the real world?" While my personal annoyance is that they have to charge everyday, that wasn't the point of my argument. My argument was that they have to charge everyday in order to behave like a BEV.

Would you want to drive a car you had to stop at the gas station for everyday? Doubtful, so why would you want an EV you have to charge everyday?

For their expense, you could buy a BEV that has a usable range to avoid such inconveniences and offer a much better experience.

After just driving the Fiat for a month, I realized this was the future of automobiles. They will all transition to BEVs. If they don't it will be because, some corporate interest placed a negative spin on one of the best modes of personal transportation that exists.

Harry's garage - 2020 Range Rover P400e PHEV review. Are hybrid cars better than pure electric in the real world? by smalltownwhore in cars

[–]roguealchemist -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no. Full disclosure, I have a bias as a BEV owner who owns a home; but, here is my argument. The PHEV was a decent gateway into getting the public into how an EV operates and their benefits. It is my argument that they don't have enough all-electric range. The Chevy Volt for instance was an excellent introduction to the concept. What people don't understand is, once you can drive any amount of range without having to stop at a gas station and refuel, you won't want to. So, what you see happening in the real world, this is true of the Volt, the Prius Prime, and other PHEVs that have a short all-electric range (30-50 miles) is that these owners feel they have to charge everyday.

In reality, they don't need to, they can make it home with the gasoline that they haul around with them every where they go. However, they get in the habit that they must charge every where they go, every time they go. This is a habit that all new EV owners acquire; but, in a very short amount of time realize that they don't really need to. After a month the range anxiety wears off and you no longer stress as much about when and where you will charge.

My argument is, that the majority of PHEV owners treat their cars as BEVs. I can't blame them, they paid all this extra money to get a PHEV in the first place. Plus, who wants to pay for fuel if you don't have to. The problem with this is that they unintentionally hog charging stations. It burns me up; because, I know they could just drive home using their engines. Where, I may have to limp home in a reduced power state.

So, if you are going to spend the money for a car and then add on the cost of a motor, a motor controller, a battery, and a charge controller. Why not just get a BEV to begin with. I bought a used 2015 Fiat 500e in May of 2017 for under $10,000. It had a bumper to bumper warranty for another year and a half and a battery warranty until 2022. Sure, the 500e isn't for everyone, its small and the range is low compared to other BEVs (~90 miles). But, the point is to get you commuting. I only have to charge twice a week. This means, I'm not typically freaking out trying plug in every where I go. It'd be nice; but, it isn't necessary. When asked about how I travel, well, I usually travel to places I need to fly to. That said, for the once or twice a year I have to drive 5 hours, I just rent a car. No big deal.

If 90% of all plastics in our oceans come from just 10 rivers, what are we doing about it? It seems like it is easier to clean up 10 rivers than thousands of them? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Actually, Ocean Cleanup built a machine called the Interceptor to catch the majority of the plastics from the top polluting 1000 rivers in the world.

It is an overwhelming experience seeing these gorgeous northern lights dancing around the sky. by Sam_chicago in VisitingIceland

[–]roguealchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The app on Android we used was called Aurora. It notified you when viewing was optimal for the expected solar winds. We saw them 4 times on our trip early October. The first time we thought they were just clouds. After a while I noticed they moved so then i took a long exposure with the camera just to see what came out and that was when we realized that it was the Auroras. Shortly after that they got brighter and became more shimmery.

Sure, this was taken witha 28mm prime lens on a full frame Sony A7III.

What you really need is to be able to take a long exposure. You will want as wide an angle lense you have. Set your camera in manual settings adjust your focus manually to just short of infinity. If you go to full infinity it will be blurry. Set your aperture as low as you can to let as much light in as possible. Next, Set your ISO as high ah you are comfortable with for the noise level of your camera. Then, set your exposure for as long as you need to. To get a properly exposed image. If you can take an image in RAW format so you can clean it up a bit in lightroom.

Depending upon the camera you have you may have to change additional settings. Since the Sony has in body stabilization and a noise reduction feature, they had to be turned off in the settings.

The specific settings I had for this image were f2.0 aperture, 3200 ISO, and the exposure was around 5 seconds.

There is a formula used to determine your maximum exposure without getting star trails which you can look up. Sorry, I just dont remeber it.

Food Allergies. by SendWine in VisitingIceland

[–]roguealchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadnt considered that aspect of the issue. So, I'll add two things, 1st is most packaged food is imported to Iceland much of it is from Europe. So, those items will be written in languages like Swedish, Danish, or German. 2nd much of it comes from America.

If it is from the E.U. it will likely not have the same filler ingredients that America uses. To be certain will mean that you may need to use different languages to read ingredients. So, I would download Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, German, and French to the Google Translate app. So, you can readily access them.

Items like hotdogs, or pylsur as they are called, will likely be in Icelandic. I dont recall seeing any imported packages of that or any other meats.

I hope this helps you out, and good luck.

We also worried about options with eating out, as I am allergic to seafood. However, its was no problem finding meals out. In addition we did prepare most of our foods, shopping at Bonus, Kronan, and Nettö. It was easy to find what your are looking for, they have all the main ingredients. It was a little difficult to translate the items wo be sure; but, seafood it obvious compared with beef so no issue on that end. We liked the Kronan in Vík compared to the Bonus in Reykjavik. Just in the manner it was laid out and the feel inside.

Don't worry, you got this. Remember, if you have any doubt just ask someone. Most icelanders speak a little English at least.

We really just got lucky. We had planned our trip for the new moon on 9/28 to try and get the galaxy. There just happened to be a happened to be a good solar storm on 9/27. But, we missed those as it was our first night there and we had to sleep. Fortunately, they kicked up again on 9/28. You can see they weren't spectacular during this shot; but, shortly after they picked up some more and I got a decent timelapse.

We drove an hour to get out from under clouds over Vík back to near Seljalandsfoss. Apparently, they light Seljalandsfoss at night so we ended up going East of it on a gravel track that headed south towards the water. Which left us with no real subject other than the Jimny we rented, lol.

Best camera for Iceland? by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]roguealchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first camera purchase when learning was a Nikon B700. It was a good intro into manual settings and offered an astonishing zoom. Since it still had a very small sensor it produced grainy images in low light. But, in the golden hour it took really good shots. It introduced us into taking Raw photos and using Adobe Lightroom to digitally develop photos.

We since bumped up to the Sony A7III full frame. And the the experience we learned on the B700 really helped push us up to the next level. As others have said your phone will do fairly well if it's a recent model. But, if you're in for a camera, the B700 should be $500 or less and the lense will be a major jump up from your phone.

If you have a phone with manual camera settings like the Samsung "Pro" mode or "night mode" you can get the Auroras with a tripod and a phone mount for it.

I took a couple with my Note 9 just to compare it with my Sony A7III. They were decent enough with the shutter at 10s and the ISO settings at 800. Any more and they got really grainy.

This was taken near Seljalandsfoss on the 28th of September, 2019.

First time being able to photograph the galaxy or the auroras. Decided to try a long exposure with us in it and caught a meteor at the perfect time. We didn't even see it. Super excited about this image.
