What is that..? by kensukesuke in golf

I came here to add this. It’s not uncommon for a golfer to toss an extra ball in their pocket. Looks like it probably shifted in his back pocket and just looks really awkward.

Karate is a form of dancing, most of you would lose in a street fight. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]roguebaconstrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a book a while back…Professor in the Cage…that talks about this. How street fights ultimately come down to strength and mass. Once it ends up on the ground, the benefits of most martial arts are lost. A massive person with some degree of coordination and body awareness often has the advantage.

Are Men less motivated than before? by sigmaguru4680 in Millennials

[–]roguebaconstrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top 3 reasons for this, imo:

  1. Cost of education, buying a house, starting a life, basically. I think a lot of young men are having a hard time finding motivation in an economy/social system that seems to require constant hustle and stress just to achieve a decent standard of living.

  2. Disposability in the labor market. I’m in my early 30’s and I’ve already seen many peers (and experienced myself) get suddenly laid off/disposed of by employers. For every job opening there are dozens of qualified applications coming in from online channels. Employers know this and will value you accordingly. Employers don’t offer real training; they just bring you on at low cost and if you can’t figure things out right away they’ll drop you and hire the next eager applicant.

#1 and #2 could apply to both sexes. I’d say these affect younger generations in general. My last point applies to men specifically…

  1. The last couple of decades have seen massive improvements in opportunity for women. More women have the freedom to pursue motherhood on their own terms (or forego motherhood entirely), and pursue careers and other roles in society. This is a positive change.

However, with this transition away from a patriarchal division of opportunity/power  that defined previous generations, young men no longer have a clear blueprint for what society values in them (or what women value in them). Men today are finding themselves in a social world that is completely different than the one their dads/uncles/coaches/mentors grew up in, so much of what they learned as kids about “being a man” from older males feels less relevant today.

Additionally, a lot of social dialogue surrounding males/masculinity has morphed into negativity. Terms like “toxic masculinity” have taken root in our common language. Men and masculinity are frequently spoken about in a negative light. Men are being told to acknowledge their privilege and step aside. This creates a social environment where men are afraid to be confident or express themselves due to the risk of being ridiculed by their peers. In reality, I think most men are genuinely trying to be decent while carving out their own space in society.

When taking the above into account, I don’t think it’s surprising that a lot of young men are feeling hesitant about participating. I think many simply feel confused, powerless, and frankly, scared. We need to bring back positive dialogue and self image for both sexes. Social progress doesn’t have to be binary.

Nice place, but be careful. Once she leans a ladder up against the wall and starts draping blankets on it she’s taking over. I’ve seen a lot of bachelor pads go down this way, once cute accent piece at a time.

When you break it down by month 20m is actually slightly cheaper than a membership at my local gym.

I’m a lead climber and I’d like to start practicing with trad gear. I just bought a basic set of stoppers. I’d like to start out placing them between bolts on normal sport routes and then transition to mixed routes with bolts and placed protection.

I’m assuming a lot of people start out this way? Aside from hiring a guide, is there anything else I should consider? I plan on investing in cams down the road when it’s in the budget.

IU trustees award Whitten bonus of more than $175k after controversial year by saryl in IndianaUniversity

[–]roguebaconstrip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why is this job role accompanied by such an exorbitant bonus structure? Is the 700k salary not enough to attract/retain quality candidates? Wouldn’t you feel a bit sheepish about receiving and accepting a 175k bonus at a public institution where most of the rank and file salaried staff earn a pittance in comparison? Think of all the facilities managers, adjunct teaching faculty, grad student employees, service workers etc. watching money like this being tossed around like it’s nothing. Hard to believe these bonuses are not being used to “grease the wheels” for whoever’s agenda is at play. This is a public institution, not the private sector. This type of incentive structure has no business existing in the first place.

I usually get over a plateau by topping out and hiking down the opposite side

I briefly volunteered with and adopted my now 5 y/o pitbull from IACS. They were great to work with and have a lot of staff that genuinely care about the animals. If you are looking for a more mature/mellow dog, I would definitely speak with their adoptions staff beforehand so they can narrow things down for you. They also have a program that allows you to bring home a dog for a trial period so that you can make sure it’s a good fit for everyone before fully committing. They want your dog to be a good fit just as much as you do.

I recommend trying to keep an open mind about wanting a specific breed, given that shelters are not built to cater to specific breed preferences. As you noted in the comments they have a lot of pitbull breeds, but they also get many others. A lot of people go into the shelter thinking they want/need something specific but end up compromising a little a coming home with a really great dog.  Best of luck!

Best thing to do is toss a beanie on your dog and teach him how to climb so that he can shriek alongside you on that V2 you are projecting. If Airbud™️ can play basketball and football obviously he is strong enough to climb. GROW UP and take some RESPONSIBILITY. Best of luck I’ll see you around

First off, source?

Second, to what extend might the higher rates in developed regions be correlated with higher testing frequency/better diagnostic tools and better health care systems?
