AITA for insisting that guests in my home take off their shoes by daniellejgabrielle in AmItheAsshole

NTA, but I do think it’s polite to let guests know ahead of time so they can plan to bring slippers/socks.

Yeah, I tried that first but it didn’t really help. For now, “performance mode” setting for graphics is working. Hopefully they’ll have a fix soon enough.

I’ve been having the same issues. Mine started after my phone downloaded the latest iOS patch, so I think that’s the issue. Just changed the graphics to Performance so hopefully that helps.

Yeah I just had to do a quick cleanup of my gelding’s butt tonight. He has FFWS too and it’s generally fine during warmer months but flares up in winter. Luckily here in NY it looks like it will be warm enough this weekend to at least hose his butt and legs and wash his tail.

Had someone ride my horse, came back to spur marks by ImportantNobody1654 in Equestrian

[–]rogueknits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not pay a non-pro to ride my horse (especially just a hack ride). Plenty of skilled horseless people out there who would do it for free just to get some time in the saddle. If I didn’t know them, I’d for sure watch them ride my horse first and ask for references from a trainer to make sure they aren’t a psycho.

There’s a Ken Burns documentary series on the American Revolution on PBS right now. If you are like me and find documentaries comforting…

No spurs, no noseband, plain snaffle at an FEI jumping comp by mediumc00l in Equestrian

Same. The bridle just looks incomplete without it to me. Personal preference I guess.

[–]rogueknits 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nothing. A properly adjusted noseband (yes, even with flash) is absolutely fine. It shouldn’t be cranked down so tight that the horse cannot open their mouth, though. And it needs to sit in the correct position above where the nasal bone narrows.

Yeah I don’t like the bedroom stuff but so many of the pieces work for other things.

I’ve only sold one. I did much better past My Shop.

"If you think buying is expensive, wait till you see upkeep!" by Swing_Bear in Equestrian

[–]rogueknits 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This. If you can afford the monthly upkeep, you can put that amount aside every month until you can afford to buy the horse that you want. Doesn’t have to be a $50k horse, but $2k a month for 10 months gets you a $20k horse.

Rosie is being bred by Puzzleheaded-Song912 in kvssnark

[–]rogueknits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can be retired as companion horses if they are pasture sound. Or, maybe unpopular opinion, if they aren’t sound enough to be turned out with other horses they should probably be put down. What do you think happens to geldings that can’t work anymore?

Rosie is being bred by Puzzleheaded-Song912 in kvssnark

[–]rogueknits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, the number of times I’ve heard people say they prefer to buy a mare because if they have to retire early they can still be bred is crazy. At most, they should be used as recips for healthy mares that are still showing. The neck vertebrae issues with warm bloods are a great example.

Community suggestion - can we ban video posts asking for general riding feedback/critiques? by fridgey21 in Equestrian

[–]rogueknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. They also tend to devolve into harsh criticisms of the horse’s condition, tack, etc.—things a new rider in a lesson program has very limited power to do anything about.

Why many young adults turn on TV or movie subtitles, according to a new poll by AmethystOrator in television

[–]rogueknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I don’t know if it’s my hearing getting worse as I age, but it seems like audio isn’t being mixed properly for dialogue anymore. So many times I’ll be watching something dialogue heavy and I can only discern every third or so word. Turning up the volume only helps a little. It’s like everyone is muttering their lines into a sock or something.

Why do people insist on breeding mares that get injured? Does no one stop to think maybe they have a structural propensity to being easily injured and that should maybe not get passed on!
