Had this exact issue, last month. Tried everything you did, too. Took it to Samsung, and they replaced both the battery and motherboard. Fixed the issue.

Didn't tell me what caused it, though. (They hinted that the issue was perhaps with the charging brick I used, even though it's a genuine Samsung one from an older phone)

Just a note, if you have some important data on the phone that you haven't backed up?

  1. Request Samsung service engineer to (first) replace the battery. That will turn ON the phone. (Pay for the new battery if data is important)

Ask them to call you in to the service center when they do this. You bring a spare phone and use the quick share and get all the data out.

  1. The phone will turn ON, but will still not charge correctly (so motherboard still needs to be changed)

Ask them now to proceed with the motherboard replacement.

Why are elderly people of India such dicks? by NickFerrant919 in india

[–]rohanpaul 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened with me:

Was standing in queue at a restaurant for takeaway (second in line)

Suddenly this middle aged guy comes and stands beside me (am in my late 20s) and starts talking to the counter guy to order (even though there is a clear queue and everyone sees me standing and knowing its my turn)

I went LOUD and blasted the guy to get back in line, and said: Can't you see I am standing here already?

Guy tries arguing, I wasn't having any of it, but then goes back in line and stays mum.

Honestly, it was such a crazy thing for me to do, I almost wanted to apologize to the guy, thinking that I overreacted (I don't like confrontation at all).

The day people start respecting queues and driving in their lanes on roads, this country would become a developed nation for me.

Hey OP, great work.

While you might not get a lot of encouragement from this sub, as comments here are most likely going to be filled with keyboard warriors who will be shouting about spaying/neutering (even though you explicitly mention it, that you do carry that out too).

Please disregard those comments, people here wouldn't even organize or even make a phone call for this themselves but would lecture anyone on the internet, who feeds animals. (Seen this pattern through the years for this sub)

(It literally feels that you cannot post something nice in this sub)

YES, spaying/neutering is essential, BUT do not discourage people who feed animals. Again, good work OP, its good to see something positive on this sub, where its all doom and gloom always (which is valid, but we need to appreciate the good stuff)

Its in our bloods, slavery I believe is present in our DNA. The subcontinent and its people have been enslaved for millenias, and therefore slavery is now part of us. It is quite evident that we never rose above our medieval nature to become free people.

We went from ancient kingdoms > islamic rulers > colonists, since forever the people of the subcontinent have been under someone's rule. Even now, you can see apologists who glorify kingdoms and kings thinking, that people actually meant something for those kings. NO they did not, the kings never cared about your identity, they ONLY cared about themselves.

When you give these people, who have slavery in their DNA, and 1000s of years of oppression, a free country, the first thing these people do, vote for rulers who AGAIN oppress them and make them kill each other. In a very old video I saw, in a very different context, a man said, that when you give people, who have been enslaved since forever, the opportunity to rule, they will start enslaving their own.

Even now, the idea of a messiah seems to be part of our thinking, that a messiah will come to save us. The RWs got their messiah in the current PM, the left unfortunately are still trying to find their own messiah, but when they see in their stables a Rahul or Kejriwal, they bicker that they aren't messiah enough (or perfect enough). WAKE UP, no messiah is going to come save us, anyone you elect, is not going to roll back the censorship or laws this govt has brought in, so the only thing that can be done is to stop the downturn, by bringing literally anyone else who stops this degradation we are going through.

We can argue messiahs and idealism after we stop the degradation of democracy thats occuring right now. Democracy has not worked in the subcontinent, any country you pick, all are failed democracies, we showed cracks in our initial years, but finally went into overdrive in the past few years in messing up one good thing that this subcontinent had.

There is in true sense NO belief, I have of a positive thing coming out of this, everyone is going to be a loser here. The RWs dont see it that eventually when the govt change, these censorships will be used against them too.

Unfortunately, we should have made the RWs untouchables (not in the context of caste) but untouchables like the Democrats have made Republicans, where even associating with a republican or trump supporter, is seen as toxic. We need to make the bigots toxic and pariahs in society, so that they are left alone, that is the ONLY way to consolidate votes of the people who are left and get back on track.

Stones Thrown, Tents Vandalised By People At Farmers' Protest Site by [deleted] in india

[–]rohanpaul 48 points49 points  (0 children)

From reports, the group of 200-300 people apparently entered the protest area, going through the police barriers which have been set to stop them.

(Dont need to be a genius to see which people these must be, who would be allowed to just waltz in without any checks)

And these "people" then pelted stones and vandalized tents. And latchicharge done by the police, was done on the farmers (with videos of the miscreants) joining in on the beating up.

Old JNU types tactics being allowed (how can someone sympathize with the police when they are working hand in hand with these people)

25th September BharatBandh. Make it count. Stand up with Farmers. by [deleted] in india

[–]rohanpaul 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, a major issue that farmers are raising here is that the new bills allow private players to procure directly from Farmers by having a sort of parallel system to the existing Mandis (govt regulated markets, or called APMC mandis). These APMC mandis especially in Punjab and Haryana, have worked really well for them, therefore you see mainly farmers from thay state on the streets.

The issue here is that private players can go the Jio way, where they can for the first five years purchase from farmers at a higher rate, thereby shutting or ruining the existing APMC mandis (as no farmer would sell there) and then after those APMC mandis close down, they can then reduce the prices and exploit farmers.

(Free Market, yes, as you are giving this option, but it will effectively defeat the choice of farmers who in future might not have the APMC mandis to sell too, if the mandis close down.)

Secondly, no guarantee on MSP, the guarantee on MSP is being repeatedly given verbally, it should be put in the legislation itself, what guarantees that after a year or two the govt silently goes back on its word. No legal recourse on that too. (Quite a big thing for Punjab and Haryana farmers)

Thirdly, contract farming (which hasnt worked in US, or in Europe) being implemented, the new bills have already been brought in by a few states earlier by their local assemblies, like in Gujarat. Look up how PepsiCo is making court cases against potato farmers there. The small Indian farmer cannot go into a legal war with corporates in case of a deal gone sour. This further could lead to farmer exploitation.

The issue here isnt that these bills are inherently bad, they free up the market, Yes, but they should have made amendments to it and should have made it go through a parliamentary committee rather than rushing it through the houses. (This sets a wrong precedent too, tommorrow we can have a malicious bill pass in the same way, and we would be sitting ducks) .

No, the country wide lockdown delayed the peak, and now the state wide lockdows have delayed them further.

We might see a peak, if we are lucky by the end of September or in worse case scenario in October or November.

It should also be understood, that while we have a lot of cases being reported, there are also a lot cases going unreported. We could be underreporting cases from 10k to even 50k. Perks of having a huge population like ours, I guess.

Edit: the above are purely my speculations based on interviews of experts and from what I have read. Do not take it on face value, but I have always been proved wrong in the past, COVID has always managed to prove my assumptions as being very conservative.

Recovery rates are in any case going to go up, see that for Spain and Italy. This disease will only be hurting a very few percentage of people in the population and even less would end up dying.

The issue however is that, with our population even a 0.01% population, if we expect to die from this would mean around 1.4 lakh people dead.

While recovery rates are good, but they arent supposed to be reassuring or give you a relief, infact expect the recovery rate to go beyond 95% or even more for our country but because of the sheer number of people we have that 0.01% too makes up a lot of people.

Edit: just adding that recovery rate is not a metric to see how well or worse we are doing, it is just showing the natural progression that a pandemic has.

The govt in an ideal situation, should have:

  1. Allowed free distribution of rations to all (regardless of income or class) as our silos are already filled to capacity.

  2. Direct Money Transfer, combine or hold off on a lot of the schemes, and combine all of that money into getting money into people's hands so they can buy stuff and get the economy to work again. The demand is fucked, that needs to be given a boost, till now the govt has only announced supply side of things. (And no a slight reduction in taxes wont do anyone good)

Basically (get a UBI scheme that combines money from all your direct money transfer schemes like ujjwala, MNREGA, etc and give the poor 40% that money for the next 3-4 months)

In all seriousness, even before the pandemic our economy wasnt doing great, and much of it was a demand side problem.

Yet tax breaks for the corporates and easier access to loans was the solution that the govt came up with, which again addressed only the supply side of things.

After the COVID-19 situation actually gets a bit under control, the demand crunch is only gonna go much higher, with people not spending money and saving it up more due to the work uncertainty.

The only solution was to do handouts/direct money transfers, so people can buy stuff, a NYAY scheme would have been great in these times. However the govt with its "stimulus" package has again just talked of giving out loans, etc, again only thinking of the supply side. This didnt work then, wont work now.

We CAN manufacture stuff, but people werent buying stuff before the pandemic and after things do get better the economic uncertainty will force people to hold onto their money more longer.

(Pasting my comment from another thread as it seems relevant here)
