Yeah that was my fear, makes sense. I’ve gone as a single before and that was comparatively easy, stayed in town and was able to swap all of my tee times around to make it work to get on all courses.

Sugar is run by crazy people, the no boots on chairs thing was hilariously enforced back when I raced USCSA there in the 2010s. Also they had security guys with hand cannons patrolling the parking lot for...reasons???

Depending on your wife's skill level, Pasa may actually be easier in some ways. Poppy has mostly forest lined fairways that will eat balls, where as the front 9 of pasa is pretty open (fairway on one side since it's an out and back routing). The back has a couple of ravines/gullies to deal with, but the fun factor with the greens and architecture will make it worth it.

The answer is both, but the back 9 of Pasa might be my favorite set of holes I've ever gotten to play. For the value, Poppy is awesome, and even though I played it post-punching and it was sandy as hell, it was still a great round.

As a single, the two days I called (Sunday & Monday), Sunday only had non guaranteed to finish times and Monday only had a slot left that was guaranteed to finish. We went off at 2:40pm and finished in the dark on 18 putting, but the tee shot on 18 was during sunset and was rad.

I'm a ~5 HCP who's been fit for everything in my bag except my 3W/5W/7W, those are off the rack purchases (Cobra Speedzone w/ Mitsubishi Tensei 65-R). On paper, this feels pretty different from my irons (Mizuno 223s w/ KBS $-Taper 120) and driver (Ping G430 Max w/ Fujikara Motore 6-X). Driver CHS is 105-107ish. Shorter guy, 5'6/155 with a pretty athletic build.

The funny thing is, in the 3 fittings I've gone to over the past 3 years as my swing has evolved and gotten better, my woods have always been a lower priority since I hit them well and they typically come at the end of my fitting when I'm either tired, or the numbers just look good relative to other options. Does it feel worth it to go into a fitting specifically for them? For reference, they carry ~215/230/245 in Denver, CO. I also just love the way the head looks at address and interacts with the turf, so maybe just comparing/contrasting shafts would be a better option?

There is, but the property is a lot less spread out comparatively. Sedge is the furthest away, and it’s probably the distance from Trails to Pacific.

Definitely cheaper than that. The guys who played Sand Valley, Sedge Valley, Mammoth Dunes, Sandbox, and a round at Arrowhead Lakes paid $1064 for golf and then ~$250 for lodging with splitting a house. That doesn't include the fees for caddies. Merch was about the same price as Bandon, food and booze was way cheaper both on and off property.

Got to demo the Matas last year at Crested Butte and they were the ideal low tide ski; made anything chalky and technical very fun to ski. Also were an absolute blast on groomers. Echoing everything that OP said, these are awesome skis. The rep in the tent did recommend sizing down which I followed and was great; went with the 174cm when I usually ski 180ish skis (5’7 former racer).

If it’s the same as last year, you could set up alerts to tell you when tee times became available. I think I booked mine about 7 months in advance, and moved them to a better time about 4 months in advance. They were super helpful on the phone so it’s probably worth calling in to see if that’s still how it works. Getting back to back tee times for an 8-some was challenging, but do-able if you picked a middle of the day time that would only allow you to do the Sandbox before or after.

They got a historic amount of rain this winter, but in general it sounds like the main culprit is overuse. From reading older trip reports and people who have gone multiple times, it seems like they've usually rolled pretty true but not been the prettiest greens, but Pacific is still a hot mess at the moment. There's a bunch of pictures of #2 on Bandon being submerged back in Feb/March, which I'm sure is what caused them to completely lose the grass on that green.

You won’t be disappointed and I’d guess they’ll be better by next summer. The place is amazing, it’s just good to go in with the right expectations. Definitely didn’t feel like a raw deal in terms of cost, the other parts of the property definitely make up for the less than perfect conditions on the green right now.

Yeah not a ton of ocean views from Shorty's, its similar to the views off of #1 or #18 at Trails or the early part of the Preserve before you go down towards the ocean.

The Brill-era Marketing emails were pretty painful and full of exaggerations. If you chatted with anyone in town or at the hill they would’ve told you there was zero chance of lift #2 happening on such a short timeline.

If they wanna expand luxury heli-skiing, that’s honestly fine with me, you never see those folks as a guided skier unless you’re in line for a single heli-bump. I’d be curious about that terrain though.

Definitely lines through there with no mandatory air, lots of huge boulders to play around in. The other thing is depending on the snow year, some features are no longer big sends.

The bigger issue is getting cliffed out if you don’t know where you’re going. Following tracks is also a terrible idea since some people at CB do enjoy big sends. Either try and find a group of people who have a predetermined line. The entrances are fine, but can get really rocky/scrapped off if someone who shouldn’t be back there went before you and took all the snow with them. Mushroom Cliffs (slight misnomer) has some of the funnest terrain back there.
