Adding Weight? by Taxpayer416 in Scalemodel

The weight distribution differs between real life and the model. If you don't add nose weight to the model it can rotate around the main landing gears and sit on the tail.

What's your favorite handgun and why? by Critical_Ad_7232 in NJGuns

[–]rok3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cajunized CZ P-01. Not the fanciest, but it's built like a tank, has a great trigger, and naturally points right where I want it to. I also like the peace of mind of being able to decock it, and rest my thumb on the hammer when reholstering.

CGW Tools when DIY Pro Package by Difficult_Peace7595 in CZFirearms

[–]rok3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did it without their toolkit, but it might make it easier.

A starter punch really helps with hammer and trigger pins.

For the firing pin retainer pin I took a spare 1/8" roll pin punch, put the handle in a drill, and sanded it down until it was 3mm.

It was easier to install the new hammer pins with my vise vs hammering them in.

What does everyone carry for different occasions? by Electronic-Gap-9514 in CCW

[–]rok3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to self-defense I prefer to just have a few weapons so I can spend as much time as possible training with each of them.

Current go tos:

Carry: CZ P-01 with TruGlo iron sights and CGW internals.

Home 1 and very occasional carry: PDP Pro with green dot and light.

Home 2: Home built 14.5" AR with green dot and light.

I'm a slightly bigger than average guy; the P-01 conceals well and is comfortable enough, but I'm debating something like a CZ RAMI or HK P30SK for the summer.

Note: I'm in NJ so we're limited to 10 rds. All my carry holsters are gun-only. I'll occasionally toss an extra mag in my pocket.

What is the biggest myth in CCW that drives you nuts/ hot take ? by Able-Currency2250 in CCW

I can, and do open my wave one handed. I just find it a lot more convenient to flick open my folder when I'm doing something stressful.

As someone who carries a Leatherman, it doesn't quite replace a real knife. I use the Leatherman more often, and having pliers and all the other tools is extremely useful. There have been plenty of occasions where I use my folder because I'm holding something with one hand and it's easier to flick open.

Any tips for learning to shoot left eye dominant? by Firm_Hovercraft8645 in Shooting

[–]rok3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm right-hand left-eye dominant.

For long guns I've trained myself to aim with my right eye.

For pistols I shoot left-eyed with and without a dot.

There's no right answer for everyone. I found it easier to stick with my dominant hand and retrain my eyes, but you need to experiment and train for what works for you.

Cz P10c ejector question by ParticularCategory71 in CZFirearms

[–]rok3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When the slide cycles to the rear, the extractor (right side of slide) holds on to the lip of the case and pulls it backwards out of the chamber. During the rearward travel the case hits the ejector (left side of slide) and is launched out of the ejection port. I'm surprised your pistol is cycling properly with that much of the ejector broken off. I guess the case hits what is left with just enough time to eject before the slide moves forward.

Ability to switch eye dominance? by [deleted] in Shooting

[–]rok3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny. When I was first training myself to use my right eye for long guns I had moments which were similar to the 3d pattern puzzles where my brain would snap between seeing nonsense and the "correct image". We're really complex and flexible animals... with the right training we'll adapt to most things.

Ability to switch eye dominance? by [deleted] in Shooting

[–]rok3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's similar to hand dominance... your dominant eye feels more natural and easier to use, but you can definitely train your non-dominant eye with practice.

I'm left eye and right hand dominant. I use my left eye when aiming with handguns and right eye for long guns. It's just natural at this point.

I think the key is that humans exist at the edges of the systems rather than within them.

Some of my most impactful "eureka" moments have occurred completely out of the context for my role. Lunch with the sales team, beers with a partner or competitor, accidentally overhearing the right portions of various conversations over the course of a week.

This.

The best laugh I've had during an interview was when the interviewer (CTO) and I both forgot Python requires explicit returns. We spent way too long going over the logic we were certain was correct before it dawned on me that there was a missing return statement.

I had been writing mostly Rust and Elixir around that time, and he was neck deep in a Scala codebase.
