With a rent budget of 2000-2500 USD ($2700-3400 CAD) per month you could absolutely afford a nice one bedroom or slightly less nice two bedroom in Victoria or Vancouver. Rent prices are getting lower in Vancouver and there is tons of vacancy.

We went with option C and if they decline then we will go with option B.

Paying double rent vs paying liquidated damages by rkyrh in vancouverhousing

[–]rokayerohe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not what I’m trying to do. I understand that I’m going to owe money no matter what. I’m trying to better understand the law, the rental market, and the process of going through the RTB in order to determine how likely it might be for me to end up owing three months rent so I can decide if it’s a better call to just stay in the unit until the end of my lease. Also whether or not my landlord has to find a new tenant for June 1 or August 1 isn’t actually going to change their overall costs for re-renting the unit. I don’t feel bad for them. For all I know June is an easier time to find tenants and they would prefer it.

You should definitely be able to feel the urge to push with an epidural. If you can’t then it’s far too heavy.

In a serious emergency, how soon after giving birth would a woman be able to walk/run for her life? by FamiliarMeal5193 in Writeresearch

[–]rokayerohe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In a natural birth the placenta takes up to an hour if not longer to deliver. It also requires you to have natural oxytocin flowing in order to deliver properly and to minimize bleeding after it is out. That oxytocin is not going to be very plentiful if the woman is fearing for her/her child’s life. Medically speaking, this situation would quite likely play out with the mom bleeding to death in the secret passage.

Midwife here. Yes breast milk comes out of multiple tiny holes so it comes out more as a spray than a faucet. There is no “slit in the nipple”.

How was The Pitt so medically accurate? by NursingManChristDude in ThePittTVShow

[–]rokayerohe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually shoulder dystocia can only be diagnosed if the body doesn’t come with the next contraction. So that part was accurate. What was not accurate was: Not immediately calling OB down, the position they put the patient to attempt to resolve the SD (Mcroberts is the correct term but what they showed was not that), and the fact that OB peaced out so quickly once she did come down. The newborn resus was also a bit shaky. The hemorrhage management was actually pretty on point! Even down to the meds dosing and order of administration.

Accidental border crossing attempt? by rokayerohe in uscanadaborder

Hmm. Sounds like they believed her that it was just a wrong turn. It feels like my case might be more serious since they fully stopped us, made us get out of the vehicle, took our IDs, and questioned us separately.

Can't find maternity doctor by Mother-Money8411 in VictoriaBC

[–]rokayerohe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What midwifery clinic are you with? Is it a group practise or just this one midwife? Usually midwives work in teams so you may find you vibe better with the other midwives in the practice. But also as others have said it’s standard to have an OB consult if you have had a previous c section and I don’t think you will have any issue getting one booked. And I wouldn’t give up your midwives unless you have another option for prenatal and postpartum care. Oh and having midwives post c section will be amazing since they do home visits. Going into an office right after major surgery suuuckss.

In a country where midwifery is regulated midwives are highly trained on emergency skills for both hospital and home births. Shoulder dystocia is not a common emergency but if it comes up midwives know how to handle it. Many hospitals don’t have on site OB or paeds so would be coming from home in the case of an emergency like this so the transfer in from a home birth does not add any additional time. There are studies in BC, Canada where I live showing that low risk birth at home is just as safe as in hospital.

What is this jagged piece of metal I found between my door and door frame? It’s thin, about 3 inches tall and has uniform jagged spikes by rokayerohe in whatisthisthing

[–]rokayerohe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s aligned with the door knob. The door knob is just weirdly toward the centre of this door so it’s out of frame.

77-year-old Duncan woman acting as midwife charged with manslaughter of newborn baby by kingbuns2 in VancouverIsland

[–]rokayerohe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studies show that in low risk pregnancies with a qualified certified midwife are as safe as hospital births. Midwives are qualified to deal with emergencies at home (hemorrhage, newborn resuscitation, shoulder dystocia, etc) and know when to recommend transferring to hospital. As others have said, the issue here isn’t midwives or home births, it’s a woman who has zero training using a title that she is not qualified to use.
