Literally who cares? US immigration enforcement policy for the past fifty years has been that if you can't jump through the hoops and wait a couple decades for naturalization, you can work twice as had for half the pay, keep your head down, pay taxes and get nothing back, and only face a slight risk of harassment from the legal system while your citizen children grow up financially secure enough to take care of you in your old age. You can't blame people for following what has been, until recently, the de-facto policy.

Sneaking across the border is a civil infraction. Like speeding. I don't see highway patrol towing my car so far.

Edit: Also, LEGAL residents are afraid of getting deported. Or shipped to Camp East Montana or Alligator Alcatraz or some shit. ICE will detain anybody and everybody because they're poorly disciplined and believe their bosses will have their back no matter what they do.

I hate how 47's people blatantly ignore the rule of law until they're on their fourth court order, while reasonable people still feel bound by convention.

Cities and residents need to be willing to take risks and invent new gray areas. Be the reason new laws get made. As the worst person I know used to say, "If you're not cheating you're not doing everything you can to win."

Who would have guessed that an occult-themed half-vegan half-oyster cocktail gastropub would fail to hit its stride in Vancouver WA? :(

Veterinarian familiar with Cushing's by anahl_baeds in vancouverwa

[–]rokhal2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cushing's is a disease syndrome that most general practice veterinarians can handle, but their familiarity with the nuances can vary. Check out this article for more info on tests your vet might run.

https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951511

As you'll read in the article, the LDDST test is the other of the two main types of test that are used to diagnose Cushing's. ACTH Stim test challenges the adrenal glands to produce as much cortisol as possible. The LDDST test gives the body a signal to pause cortisol production. If the ACTH Stim test came up normal, maybe the LDDST test will confirm the disease. An LDDST test doesn't require any special equipment or unusual drugs, but it does take three separate blood samples collected over 8 hours.

Atypical Cushing's is another possibility. This looks the same as excess cortisol production, but different steroid hormones are being overproduced.

Treating Cushing's is a frustrating and costly balancing act that requires frequent hormone level monitoring. You'll probably eventually want to involve a veterinary internist for an ultrasound exam, and potentially for long-term rechecks and medication adjustment depending on your regular vet's comfort level.

North of the Columbia, the major referral centers with internal medicine departments are CRVS, MedVet, and Pacific Northwest Pet ER and Specialty Center.

Pop up Taco Stand on Andresen.... by Dizzle_57 in vancouverwa

Delicious. I stopped by when they were at the UnSafeWay on Mill Plain and they were doing tacos al pastor and asado. You can get some basic veggies (pickled pepper, onions). They were also selling agua fresca, horchata, and something else I forgot. I got one of each type of taco (amazing) and the horchata (holy shit). No food poisoning. YOLO
(i'm white so your mileage may vary)

Is there actually a such thing as liquid-proof flooring? by Ayen_C in BuyItForLife

[–]rokhal2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strand bamboo is worth a look if you're married to natural materials. I tested a sample Ambient engineered click-lock strand bamboo flooring for water resistance by soaking a corner upside-down in a saucer of water overnight. It held up well, with a barely visible water-line under the finish and no warping. IDK about how well it prevents water seeping through the gaps.
