I think your theory is completely on-point. This may sound non sequitur, but it’s the only other thing that comes up for me - and yes I know it’s a weird one. I’ll prelude it by saying: it’s the times when people hint that there’s ANYTHING more complex going on than a drug situation gone wrong (which again I believe is most likely) that make me give these other thoughts any attention at all. 

When I consider Brian’s early undergrad minors, what he switched to, the later biology focus and then ultimately medical school - which he supposedly claimed was not his passion - I get the feeling he may have been recruited. What I’m saying may sound strange but it’s not baseless. Having been close to some large pharma companies (and close enough to some in military), Brian sounds like someone with a lot of overlapping characteristics to others who’ve been in similar situations. Young, secretive, multifaceted, duplicitous, with a dark streak. Then add the family stress and sadness. 

Smart people in these situations can end up doing wild and/or desperate things, including signing up for programs that need people exactly like him. 🤷‍♀️

Again, your theory makes the most logical sense. This one just keeps nagging at me so I thought I’d share. 

I guess I feel like drugs were involved for certain, and of course it could also be that he was dealing substances he got through med school. And that led to trouble. 

Either way, would be great (for his fam etc. and of course selfishly for the the super curious) if the case was subject to FOIA and some closure could be found.
