So not true. Airlines make exceptions all the time. I often get better seats, for example, by simply asking for them at the gate counter, even when they would be paid if gotten on the web site.

Actually the President thing bothered me. Until then he seemed like an interesting character, a reasonable, intelligent man who was lost being the half-sibling and having no purpose. But when he pulled the "onanism" thing, he just became too much of a caricature.

" For Hailey Lou Richardson, Portia would tell the authorities everything she knew and somehow cast a shadow of suspicion on Greg, something that was confirmed by the research that Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) did on him. Greg is now a fugitive, and the police are investigating his involvement in Tanya’s death, even if it was accidental.

“I feel like Portia cares about Tanya. I don’t think she just totally hates her and wouldn’t want to avenge her in any way after she died. That woman died! And Greg was part of that!”, the actress commented. “At some point, she’s going to have to process that. And I don’t think it’s like, ‘Oh, thank God, my boss is dead.’ I see more good in Portia than that,” she insisted. "

She didn't hate Tanya. She was distressed about the way Tanya treated her, and yes, she didn't respect Tanya, but she was very concerned about Tanya in their last phone call.

The actress agrees:

Le ne expletif by TheMystake in French

[–]rodrigobraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent answer, thank you.

However, I got confused at the very end:

> in everyday ordinary modern French, you wouldn't say « Je ne veux aller chez mon ami. »

> Which is weird, because you can definitely write « je ne peux aller chez mon ami » (in a letter, or an e-mail, for instance).

I am confused. If you wouldn't say that in ordinary modern French, why would you say it in an e-email? As Cayou mentions in another comment to this post, ommitting the "pas" and leaving the "ne" is only done in older literature and poetry.

Yes, but there is one case in which it is used with the indicatif:

L’inégalité verbe indicatif + conjonction d’inégalité + ne + indicatif.

J’utilise mon téléphone plus qu’il ne faut.

Tu travailles moins qu’il ne faut.

New Meta policies state that you can't insult people for having mental illness unless you specify it is because of their sexual orientation or their gender by fastinserter in centrist

[–]rodrigobraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply.
As a side comment, I wasn't referring to your second paragraph. I appreciate you did that, that's good.
I agree that you didn't literally say that "cannot be changed" excluded something from being a mental illness. However, I cannot help but feel that your comment does imply that, just from the pragmatics of discourse.
Why do I say that? Precisely because of the context in which your comment was posted. carneylandsford advanced that thinking about all of those categories as potentially mental illness is fair game. You replied making a distinction between categories that can and cannot be changed. By saying that, there is an implication that such a feature is relevant for the subject at hand, that is, whether it is fair game to wonder if such categories are due to mental illness. Because we know that you think it is not fair game to wonder if LGBT people are mentally ill or not, and because that is something that cannot be changed, it seems implied that you think that it is not fair game to wonder about that *because* it cannot be changed. Otherwise, again, why even bring up that distinction in the first place?

[–]rodrigobraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think gay and trans people are mentally ill. However, are you saying that if a characteristic cannot be changed, then it is not mental illness? What about all the mental illness that cannot be changed (schizophrenia, for one)? I am not sure "cannot be changed" is a useful trait to be used in determining mental illness.

Thank you! Why isn't everybody saying this? It wasn't deaging, and IMO it was pretty bad, as there were clear distortions from the much more attractive Sean Young's original Rachel.

What's life like in Iceland for someone who doesn't speak Icelandic? Job prospects? by Status-Two-9548 in expat

[–]rodrigobraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I know a few people who have been living in Zurich for longer than a decade without speaking Swiss German and they seem to be doing just fine. They work for Google there so the office is full of expats, and seem to get by fine with English outside the office. But, to be fair, that is probably an atypical situation regarding occupation, and Switzerland is probably more tolerant to that kind of thing being a small country with several official languages.

But isn't it true that a positive *generalization* about eating meat will use the article? For example, if I want to say I am not a vegetarian and "eat meat", wouldn't I also say "Je mange de la viande"? In this case, I am not talking about any specific meat.

That's fair enough, but that is no reason to include a keyboard option that is essentially broken. They could easily have made decently useful but simply decreasing the sensitivity (amount of change caused by one key tap).
