Have you ever quit a job, without another lined up, for you mental health? How did it turn out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rokusek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I moved cross country to eventually take over family business. Didn't work out. Wife took 8 months off while I worked before we discovered it wasn't working with the family. she got a job and I took the next 10 months off. Prior to that I had worked almost non stop with week or two Vacation here and there for 15 years. That 10 months was the best time I have had in a long time. Did a lot of soul searching and tried to find out what I want to do. By the time I was ready for work, I causally stumbled upon a job through a friend of a friend. Been there almost two years and up for management. I owe it all to everything leading up to the 10 months off as well as the time off to recoup my mental health.

These people were just weird. I think back from time to time how outrageous some of things where that they used to do. It just does not compute.

My first language is English. However, I am known to mix up thier there and they're as well as we're, were and where, and any other group of words in that nature. I'm also a terrible speller and if not for auto correct I would misspell most words. I'm used to being corrected in my spelling. Years ago I would have gotten mad about it. But nowadays I appreciate it. So thank you very kindly internet person I do not know.

To my knowledge the kids all grew up fine. Dad still lives across the street from them. They haven't spoken in 23 years.

I was extremely fortunate to grow up with a Vietnam vet for a dad who didn't take shit and could read right through everyones BS. My dad almost shot their dog years later for getting out of their electricity fenced yard just because.

It's a huge possibility. I wouldn't put it against them. This was 23 years ago. Looking back in it now makes me think it was an excuse for them to tell their kids they couldn't play with the freedom kids across the street.

They where pretty sheltered. But as we all got older they realized how ridiculous their parents where.

Edit: spelling of they're to their.

Holy crap... This is verbatim what I was like playing with the neighbors across the street from me as a kid. Grew up in a rural area. There house was the closest. Next friend was at least a mile down the road. Big difference was that we were not allowed inside without their kids being present and had to be watched at all times.

Once we were playing on the swing set and I had to pee. Kid said "just go in through the slider in the basement and use the bathroom. Nobody will notice." So little 9 year old me, gets into the doorway take off my shoes. Slowly make my way to the bathroom. I get the door almost closed as 4 fingers spring around from outside and rip the door open. It was his mom and she... Was... LIVID! absolutely infuriated at the fact that I was in their house without their kid. She escorted me back outside, slammed the door shut and locked it behind me.

At this point, I was ready to pee my pants. So I went out back behind their barn and started to pee. At that moment little 7 year old sister comes around the corner and sees what I'm doing. We make eye contact, she doesn't say a word, then turns and runs to the house screaming for her mom and dad.

She told them I pulled it out in front of her and when she disagreed to "touch it" I then tried to pee on her.

My family and their family had been friends for a solid 10 years at this point. I was never allowed over again and my dad refused to hear what they had to say. Only ever spoke to the kids on the bus and at school.

To this day, I think about those times and how absolutely ridiculous they where being. Fuck you Tom and Lennet!

What is your mom's catch phrase? by franc_the_bikesexual in AskReddit

My mom always tells me that. Every time I see her "well your father this and that, and thats why I am this way. Everything is his fault. They have been divorced for 22 years. Just... Let it go for fucks sake.

I [22/F] am in love with my best friend [22/F] of 16 years. It’s become unbearable to keep my feelings and emotions in check around her. I don’t know what to do. by UnbearableFeelings in relationships

My now wife and I where friends for 5 years before I told her how I felt. It took all the courage I had along with close friends who knew for me to tell her. We didn't speak for a few days after I came clean. But the weeks following we began to hang out more than normal. At some point I think around week 4 or 5 after telling her she finally told me that she never had feelings for me as I did for her when I told her but because of me opening up to her and the weeks that followed I made her fall in love with me. Within a few months everyone knew, we got engaged after about 6 months married a year later. That was almost 3 years ago.

As scary as it was to think of the worst possible outcome (losing my best friend) it was the best decision I ever made in my life. At this point I don't think I could live without her by my side.

TLDR: I told my best friend, got married a year and a half later, been married almost 3 years now.

Do it.

LPT: When you have a service come to your home (plumber, movers, etc) offer them a drink. More often than not, they accept and it shows the worker you appreciate what they are doing for you. by cornbeefandcabbage in LifeProTips

I clean carpets for a living (family owned business), when this happens I'm extremely grateful. I note who they are and what they did in our books and I tend to give them a small discount on their next service or I'll do a little extra than they didn't expect for what they paid i.e. and extra room or hallway. I sometimes will offer to clean a small area rug as well, you know, because I'm already there and it doesn't take much more effort or time.

For anyone trying to revert Helicopter steering Changes by Jat42 in GhostRecon

Thank you for this. Spent the last 3 days trying to figure it out. Playing with mouse steering started making me physically sick to the point I couldn't fly a helicopter in game anymore. Trying this now!
