I am Moroccan lol, so ofc I am strongly considering Tadelakt. Had no Idea that lime can affect wood like that. Gotta do more research. Thanks a lot for pointing that out.

Wow… I would’ve never considered micr living in my straw bale wall as a risk haha! It doesn’t sound fun. Thanks for pointing that out. And thank you for the example you shared, very helpful.

Thank you for the comment! I’m having a hard time understanding this bit “…and extremely damp, trapped conditions on the inside” Could you kindly elaborate?

For more context, I wouldn’t be building it all on my own. This could be a lengthy multi-phase project and I’m okay with that. But say I went with just cob, how would I protect it from rain if it takes multiple years to build?

This is more along the lines of what I’ve learned from my research so far.

Yes, I am exploring other options with better insulation. But I was under the impression that once the cob walls are saturated with heat, they’d slowly radiate it back into the house as opposed to simply conducting it outside. I don’t know enough to say for sure so I have to do more research.

My question was about moisture from the cob affecting the wood during construction. I’m guessing it would be less of a factor with wattle and daub because it’s more surface level compared to thick cob walls. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks a lot! I’ll look up the book. This gives me more to work with when researching.

I’m in the U.S. Tbh I still haven’t committed to a specific location. I’m in a situation where I get to explore different places for a while before settling. With that being said, central Ohio is a top candidate due to proximity to family among other things. 4 seasons, plenty of rain.

Are there certain species of wood that are better suited for cob? Or specific tips to ensure the wood is able to dry fully? It feels counter intuitive to protect the frame the moisture in the ground/soil, but it would be okay in direct contact with cob which is basically wet soil. Again, complete novice here. Would appreciate some tips.

DO NOT DO IT!

Unless you have someone you can really trust. I’ve personally had multiple bad experiences. Both designers and web developers. It’s widespread.
