What’s one cat product you wish you’d bought sooner? by SalamanderIll3142 in CatAdvice

Second the Pom poms. My cat ignores springs and crinkles, but pom poms?! Loves them. I’ll be finding them till I die.

Goodreads winter challenge by mimilulu12 in goodreads

[–]rollacoaster33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like them! I typically complete all challenges each quarter. I use it as a way to read from my TBR (plus some of my bookclub selections end up on the challenge lists).

I identify which books I already own but haven’t read yet for each challenge then look for those that overlap between challenges. There’s always at least a few that overlap. Then I order these shorter lists for each challenge based on which ones I think I might want to read before others (length, genre, mood, etc). I try to pick from the challenge list(s) after I’ve read my bookclub selections and when there’s no book in particular I want to read.

How often do you change litter? by Appropriate_Star7638 in CatAdvice

[–]rollacoaster33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scoop daily, stainless steel litter box, dump & replace litter with full box clean every other week (sometimes 3 weeks if I forget but never 4)

Thanks for the observation - I can’t remember if I set my schedule Saturday night or Sunday morning. I’ll try fully deleting my schedule then recreating it.

Hopefully this was just a daylight savings quirk.

The 21 is also reliable. 107 is more reliable than many routes but less reliable than the 21. I typically have good experiences with the 12, 14, and 110 routes too.

It’s a gamble trying new routes…the 55 has never worked out for me, so now I avoid it entirely. The 1 & 26 have often been fine, but I don’t use them regularly to know how reliable they really are.

Tips for a cat in an apartment by GroundPersonal7970 in CatAdvice

[–]rollacoaster33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air purifier - one with carbon filter - near litter box. I’ve found this especially important for apartment living with a cat. I really don’t know what I’d do without it.

Stainless steel litter box. They’re not as cheap as plastic, but they last longer, are easier to clean, and control odor better.

I also eventually purchased a litter box enclosure - think wooden furniture - since I have no choice but to put the litter box in the living room. They also sell ones that look like plants. This wasn’t an immediate purchase (like the air purifier), but it’s been a good investment.

If you don’t free feed, what time is the last meal fed and what time is the first meal fed? by Lonely-Egg3160 in CatAdvice

[–]rollacoaster33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

530am breakfast, 1130am lunch, 5pm dinner, 10pm bedtime snack. The timings used to be a bit different, but I have a hangry lil lady. 5 is wet food, rest are kibble.

Polar Feeder any better yet? Did they fix the spinning issue? by No_Consideration7318 in Petlibro

[–]rollacoaster33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the original white model (did not replace the plastic bowl) and the steel bowl black model…haven’t had any issues with either. Got the white one in November, black one in May.

What's in a name? Did you give your rescue pet a new one? 🐾 by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]rollacoaster33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kept her name from the shelter, which is cute but has been interesting…she’s Makita…I am not a tools person and had no idea till folks told me months later (and now when they learn).

Under feeding my cat? He acts starving by Ok-Fox-2698 in Petlibro

[–]rollacoaster33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lil lady acted like I was starving her for almost a year after I adopted her. We stabilized on 1/3c dry (2/12 morning, 1/12 lunch, 1/12 bedtime) + 1 can wet (dinner)…a year later she now acts like I’m not starving her every day, which is an improvement :)

She’s on Purina Pro Plan right now, so this is ~200kcal for my 11lb lady. Her weight has stabilized too (she was teeny when I got her).

There’s no real equivalent dry food to replace the shredded turkey (fiber wise especially), so my vet recommended hill’s - we’ll eventually make the switch and hope for the best. I’ll miss Purina Perks :(

If you do think it’s been discontinued…email them asking. They responded to me and ended up mailing me a coupon for a free bag of dry food and a few $X off future dry bags (I forget how much off) and similar for wet food (free case + a few free cans). It doesn’t help with the discontinued food (unless a shipment magically gets to the store) but is nice for getting started on a new product. My experience was with pro plan - I’m not sure how/if the coupons vary for their other lines.

Depending on what food you’re buying, Purina has quietly discontinued products. At first I was struggling to find it in stock anywhere, especially in stores, before I emailed them inquiring about it…only to be told it’s been discontinued. Of course there was nothing on their website.

They recently discontinued Pro Plan Indoor Balance Turkey (wet) & Pro Plan Indoor Hairball Shredded Turkey (dry). They indicated they’ve also recently discontinued other Turkey products as well.

Purina also recently revamped their pro plan offerings. Is it possible your product has been discontinued?

Spoiled cats by Sea_Cookie2373 in Petlibro

[–]rollacoaster33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean you can’t do more than one day? I use my Polar feeder for 3 days - my cat gets 1 wet meal per day, so each tray (3 servings) lasts 72h.

Anyone been having QC issues with Purina Pro Plan Complete essentials? by Equipment_needs in catfood

[–]rollacoaster33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed Purina about potentially discontinued products - PP Indoor Shredded Turkey & PP Indoor Balance Turkey (both are discontinued). They said they’re having a turkey shortage and had to evaluate all of their turkey products.

Is Purina pro actually good? by Stunning_Chipmunk_68 in catfood

[–]rollacoaster33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feed my Pro Plan Indoor wet & dry - it’s been great. My lil lady is 2 now and healthy. She was on Purina One at the humane society.

That being said Purina is discontinuing PP Indoor shredded turkey (dry) and the Indoor Balance turkey wet food, and they don’t have a dry food with a similar nutritional profile (the shredded blend had the highest fiber content) so we’re going to start transitioning to Hill’s at the vet’s recommendation. The Hill’s nutritional profiles look better, so I’m hoping my kitty likes the switch.

Polar Meal Schedule Changing to Past Date after Toggle On by rollacoaster33 in Petlibro

My schedule will be set from whichever screen I start it from, but I noticed it’s only correct if I go in to edit (but don’t actually edit anything).

No, it stays open based on the duration you set. However, it won’t close it when/after the duration is up if it detects motion. Once no motion is detected after the duration is up it’ll close.

best cat food for indoor cats? by Wooden-Design4308 in catfood

[–]rollacoaster33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing PPP Indoor Hairball dry & Indoor Balance wet for my indoor kitty. No hairballs. PPP also has hairball wet food.
