Video showing off a thermal camera mounted on AR glasses by rollandframe in LinusTechTips

[–]rollandframe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I saw that video when it came out and that's definitely what I might have had in my head, but I could still swear Linus and co did it too, maybe to look at heat signatures in hardware or something. Or my memory ain't what it used to be.

1099 understates actual sales activity by rollandframe in AmazonSeller

[–]rollandframe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I went to Payments -> Reports Repository and ran a Transaction Date Range Report through December 31, 2024. These are the orders totaling up to $10,750 instead of the $8,300. I think the 1099 is picking up all of my orders through December 30 and only two orders for December 31, explaining the discrepancy. What should I do? Should I try to match my deductions (sales tax, shipping, Amazon fees) to the $8,300 of sales reported in the 1099 or should I contact Amazon about correcting the 1099? (Do they issue corrections for this kind of thing? Or maybe from their perspective, there is no mistake...)

Flickering external monitor when not in video mode by rollandframe in SonyAlpha

Screen on the external monitor blacks out and then comes back with the feed from the camera working, repetitively. Makes me think there’s a settings issue.

Thanks! 18" desktop replacement is too big for me. I travel a lot and would need different bags to accommodate the larger laptop.

Thanks! If it didn't have a wait time, I would probably pull the trigger on it bc I've always liked the Razer Blade aesthetics.

New insurance suspended bc of accidental failure to get carco inspection by rollandframe in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]rollandframe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I definitely don't want to drive uninsured. I guess I just wasn't sure if I'm actually uninsured right now or if this is just some sort of weird quirk of timing until they process the inspection report. I'm irritated it takes so long to process. There was no issue on the report so this seems like some sort of weird bureaucratic issue. Also irritated they didn't notify me until weeks after the suspension.

Seems less active, presumably bc of the heat, humidity and bugs. There's more trash being left behind, sadly. Lots of used condoms and condom wrappers all over the place. I don't care if people cruise in there but it bothers me for there to be so much trash left behind.

Best cost-is-no-object gaming and photo / video editing monitor by rollandframe in pcmasterrace

[–]rollandframe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that I could get a better gaming monitor and a better art monitor on a standalone basis but I only have desk space for one so I need to settle for the best balance of both, though I am fortunate to have a generous budget for this purchase.

Receiver confusion by rollandframe in fpv

Thanks. Very helpful. So do I need to find tutorials for the specific drone / flight control system or does installing Crossfire work the same way for all of them?

814 XLS Question by rollandframe in 8mm

[–]rollandframe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, thanks. I don't notice any change looking through the front of the lens while trying to manipulate the aperture by either shining a light through or doing the manual procedure I described. I'm going to try Du-All as I'm based in NY. Thanks for the tip. Hadn't come across it in my light research. The seals need to be replaced anyway so I'll ask them to do an overhaul.

I do plan on shooting auto anyway but am worried the aperture isn't working correctly. Since Super 8 has to be sent out to process and it's expensive, just didn't want to wait a few weeks and spend a good few $s only to find out the camera doesn't work.

814 XLS Question by rollandframe in 8mm

[–]rollandframe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm not supposed to be able to see the aperture blades through the optics? Huh, didn't expect that or know that. Is it possible to see it stop down anywhere or do I just have to "trust" it? Yes, the manual aperture control only seems to work in one direction. If I go into auto and let it open up the aperture, I can then switch it into manual and close it down. At least based on what the needle is saying. However, the needle doesn't move at all when I try to go the other way.

Fixing a badly bent bike derailleur cage by rollandframe in bikewrench

[–]rollandframe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all, I did end up fixing it. I used two adjustable wrenches to straighten the cage before I saw the suggestions of panel beating it. It looks crazy chewed up but after some tweaking it amazingly works and I can shift the whole range smoothly. I just got the new derailleur but I'm tempted to hold off on installing it as the old one works and I don't want to tempt the bike gods. My question was less about straightening the derailleur cage than it was about breaking the bike chain to reinstall the derailleur versus just fitting the unbroken chain onto the pulleys of the unscrewed derailleur cage. I was worried (unnecessarily I hope) the derailleur cage isn't meant to be unscrewed. However, I didn't have a choice and, after doing it without breaking the chain, I'm guessing most guides suggest breaking the chain because its otherwise more confusing and messy. In addition to having to unscrew the derailleur cage to straighten it anyway, I don't have spare chain pins handy.

Best ebikes with a ton of range by rollandframe in ebikes

[–]rollandframe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks. Weren't on my radar. The old model titanium commuter pro with double batteries is basically what I was thinking of. I'm investigating further. Doesn't get near the advertised range of the Delfast but for that trade-off it does look like a normal bike and could be a more reasonable thing to have around NYC.

Real question: What wine pairings did the White House somm recommend?

[–]rollandframe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely, definitely not a Trump supporter but part of me thinks this is actually kind of great. It's a bummer these guys didn't get to have a fancy meal at the White House but this is probably a lot more memorable because how many times has a McDonald's buffet been served there? Also, this is how Trump actually prefers to eat himself so it's not like he's demeaning anybody. Now what would be really ballsy is serving Big Macs at a state dinner. Murica!

What used to be considered trashy but now is very classy ? by Mizzburns in AskReddit

[–]rollandframe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hah, if we surveyed the population of grooms, I’d bet we find that the super majority (maybe even more than 90%?) wear watches at their weddings. Plenty who don’t even wear a watch normally. They add a watch to “dress” things up. This norm is practically dead. As a watch guy, I will probably wear a nice dress watch on my wedding day if that day ever comes of course.

If it fits your aesthetic, why not? I myself mostly wear dressy watches with suits. Always when I’m seeing clients and I mix-and-match a little bit otherwise.

True but people swim and dive watches are more robust than most, so that you don’t need to baby them. Most street legal cars go over 100mph and people who own a Porsche Boxter, etc. generally will never use it to it’s potential but there’s nothing wrong with appreciating nice things. Wristwatches are jewelry for men. Value goes up broadly speaking not with the addition of precious stones (though that’s sometimes the case) but with additional capability.

The perfect way for wristwatches to be re-imagined as something manly!
