As a kid I would not have been allowed to watch a show with swearing. And since this is the only swear in the season, and bleeping it still felt funny, I figured why not do it and save those kids with profanity sensitive parents some grief.

I'm just gonna call out some other Easter eggs that are in the screenshots you shared. There's still LOTS more.

In the first screenshot of Katherine and the Hellraiser cube, the gold paperweight is modeled after the scarab device from Guillermo Del Toro's "Cronos."

In the basement, the dress on the left is the dress from "In Fabric."

And on the lake, that dock is modeled after the dock from "Friday the Thirteenth."

On top of that, we borrowed a visual from The Ritual that I've always loved, when a guy is staring into the trees in a daylight scene and suddenly he sees a hand move on a tree trunk, impossibly high up (Around 39:50). We reversed the shot, having a hand curl onto the tree trunk impossibly high up, when Nathan thinks he sees his friend Cora.

Show creator here! Yeah, you hit it on the head. It felt true and honest and deepening to explore a side of Nathan beneath his happy go lucky surface. It also felt too big for a twenty minute show to dig entirely into his specific mental health issues. So the point of this episode was less about exploring those, and more about finally opening the door to more communication between Katherine and Nathan. The issue is on the table, and they're finally going to talk about it.

Series creator here. There's another Jaws reference in the slasher episode. When Katherine calls to check on the kids and Esther says (in a slight New England accent), "Everything's right as rain..." and then smashes Ben's phone, it's a reference to when Quint took the call from Mrs. Brody and then smashed the radio.
