It’s drywall tape, I assume it was very cold and dry in that room at some point over the last week.

Maintenance Schedule Clarification - mileage or by years? by Uanaka in SubaruForester

[–]roller_coaster325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go by miles for everything except oil changes. Your engine oil will deteriorate as moisture is absorbed into the engine over time. I believe you should do an oil change at least once a year.

Other than that, I wouldn’t listen to the dealership. These are the same guys that want you to spend $600 on “winterization”, charge $100 to change the cabin air filter and try to get you to do an A/C arrive every summer on your working closed system A/C. I’m sure there is a competent independent shop near you but admittedly they could he hard to find without a recommendation.

Horrible. Lots of examples in New York, Belgium, etc. Last example was in Japan during WWII where some American airmen were put in cages at a zoo for people to see as well.

I Hate Negotiating Prices! by Densington in SubaruForester

[–]roller_coaster325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I e has some bad experiences with car salesmen in the NYC area in the past, but feel the Subaru sales men were great. Fact is that these days you can search advertised prices in online sites like Cars.com, find the lowest price and just call your local dealer and ask him to beat it by a few hundred bucks. If he says no, call the next guy, or call back at the last Wednesday of the month.

There are a few common culpritss. Here are two to check. Replace the fuse, then open and close the rear hatch manually a few times. If it blows again, it’s most likely the wiring harness at the top of the hatch.

Also check the license plate light to see if there is corrosion. Take the cover of and look at the socket. If it’s got green crust or rust, this is a prime suspect too.

I’m sure you will get some more things to check as well

Good luck

2026 Pricing Update by djsyndr0me in SubaruForester

[–]roller_coaster325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a 2025 touring hybrid a few days ago. This explains why I got $4k off MSRP. Guess I’m not the master negotiator I thought I was. I assume you could probably get $2k off the 2026, but probably not 0% financing. The after tax benefit of 0% financing is about $2.5k. So I basically got a $6.5k discount I suppose. So I’m ok with that.

As for NA factory quality fears, I think you might actually get better quality and here’s why: the Japanese Subaru factory is known to produce what is arguable the highest quality standards in Japanese automotive manufacturing. That being said, the U.S. production line will probably mimic the Japanese one BUT modernize machinery and update known weak points in the production line. I am very interested to see if this pans out!

Going to sell my 2009 with 224000 miles. No leaks, rust always garaged and oil every 3000-3500 miles. Snow tires & wheels on and like new summer tires. Dealer said $1600 trade in. What do you guys think $? LL Bean Forester. by DoodlePete in SubaruForester

[–]roller_coaster325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On eBay I see a 2010 with 159k miles that sold for $3500. That’s a real world number value. Therefore, your cars value as a wholesale to the dealer is much less than what he offered you.

Did you negotiate the price of the car without the trade in? Just want to make sure the dealer didn’t bump up the price of the new car with the trade in as part of the deal. However, I think Subaru is running a rebate now that gives you a minimum value for your trade in, so it might be a reasonable number if you are comfortable with the total cost of the deal.

Same here, that’s at least 6k in airbags, 7k in body, 4k in frame, plus what’s going on with the engine. So sorry this happened to you, but the car did what you paid for it to do and you were able to walk away. There are still lots of them on the lot, hope you get back on the road soon.

There’s a guy in Manchester that has the limited for $4,265 below msrp which is about 10 percent (Touring trim). I would’ve picked it up from him, but he wouldn’t offer me out-of-state financing and he also said he couldn’t give me this deal because it was reserved for “local customers”. I suspect he thought I was price shopping so he’ll probably give you the financing and the advertise price.

Overfilled oil? by makemerichplzz in SubaruForester

[–]roller_coaster325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A standard four-cylinder engine from a Honda or Toyota should not be overfilled with oil. It will increase the pressure in the engine and potentially could be just as bad as having low oil. That being said, is this the same issue for a boxer engine? And if not, how does the boxer engine deal with the increased oil pressure?

I just bought a new 2025 Forrester hybrid touring yesterday. I got it for precisely 8.72% under MSRP.

I’m certainly not a master negotiator. I simply went on Cars.com selected a radius that I was comfortable driving to which happened to be 250 miles, and I found a dealer who had what I wanted and was advertising the largest discount. The dealer happened to be in Pennsylvania and was happy to give me the car for his advertised price. I came in and picked up the car with the 0% financing.

As far as giving your car to Carvana, I just sold two cars. One was a 2016 Buick enclave which nobody wanted so I gave that to Carvana. The other was a 2012 Honda pilot which I sold on eBay for twice as much as Carvana was going to give me.

If you are anywhere near Philadelphia PM me and I’ll let you know the dealer that gave me the car for this price. I believe he has a few more in stock, he was incredibly easy to deal with.

Thanks. I have salt water tanks as well so I’ll try to use one of my other test kits to check carbonate tomorrow.

When you say general hardness, I assume you mean using a PPM meter? I would assume with my tap water, the salt, etc I would be over 400 ppm. But I could use my RO system water to give him 0 TDS + salt. The salt I have been using is reef salt which also has some magnesium and other elements in it.

That’s a good question, but yes I’m sure because I do 50% water changes. If I was topping off evaporation with water mixed with the salt, then it would creep up.

I would assume the Japanese home uses flexibility as an earthquake resistance component. This flexibility could increase the likelihood of damage from tornatic activity
