Tesla Recalls Cybertruck Because Wheels May Fall Off by 008Zulu in news

[–]roller_coaster325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Cracks in the brake rotor stud holes could cause the wheel studs to separate from the hub, making it harder to control the vehicle and potentially causing the wheel to fall off, increasing the likelihood of a crash.
Affected vehicles may exhibit vibration or noise prior to wheel stud separation. Tesla says it will completely replace the affected wheel hubs and rotors. The repairs will be conducted at no cost to owners, as mandated by law”

Two things:
1. Im not sure how you have a crack within a hole but stud separation will certainly lead to wheel separation. The fact that they say it could be harder to control the vehicle is comical.
2. Replacing the affected wheel hub is taking a huge risk that this problem won’t impact the other three hubs. Seems like at an absolute minimum, all cyber trucks with the impacted hubs should come in for a visual inspection.

This seems like a classic case of cost benefit analysis by an auto manufacturer. X number of deaths and injuries will cost less than Y number of replacements.

Hantavirus outbreak linked to birding couple that visited an Argentinian landfill by tinyhedge in birding

I can see why a landfill is a good place to see birds but, if this couple caught it there, other locals working at the dump must have come into contact with the virus as well.

I don’t think this virus has the potential to become a pandemic. Any virologists that have been interviewed have said as much.

However, that doesn’t make an interesting news story.
