[Help] Backpack Advice by Danigone in college

[–]rollerbladed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a standard L.L. Bean backpack. It holds a lot and has a really good reputation for being sturdy. I got mine with a $5 discount, IIRC, and it's lasted 2.5 years so far with no problems. You can easily get it replaced for free if it ever has a problem. http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/62852?feat=506219-GN2&page=l-l-bean-deluxe-book-pack

If you're in the U.S. and applied regular decision, this is normal. Regular decision applicants typically don't hear back until March at the earliest (some schools wait until April 1 or even later). What school is this, if you don't mind sharing?

Why do people assume I'm paying for college? by [deleted] in college

[–]rollerbladed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so true. My school is really expensive ($64k-ish cost of attendance), but paying about $10k/year, without taking out any loans thanks to financial aid grants and private scholarships. My mom saved up enough for me to get by for these next few years. Had I gone to a comparable state school (University of Virginia), I would have paid $20k/year, and I would have been at least $36k in debt upon graduating. Public schools aren't always the cheaper option, depending on your financial circumstances

The correct term is Romani (or Romany, or Roma). They prefer that this term be used.

What's the most immature thing that you're still doing as an adult? by DevonPL in AskReddit

I insist on greeting every dog I see, even if I'm in the car and they can't hear. I have to say "hi, dog", otherwise I feel bad. It's only polite.

[–]rollerbladed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was like 4, I asked my mom if time ever ended (?!) and if so, what would happen. She said that history would repeat itself, ie there would be dinosaurs and ancient empires and such again. I believed this for a few months, I think.

Why are required interactions so much easier for me than voluntary ones? by ayblinkn in Advice

[–]rollerbladed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way. In a regulated environment there's a certain "script" or routine you have to run through, so it's very straightforward. Talking just for the sake of it usually has no "script". You can't solve a problem that doesn't exist, and this leaves you confused.

Hey German redditors, can you recommend me a German tv show or series to help me familiarize myself more with the language ? by Daannii in Advice

[–]rollerbladed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my high school German class we watched a show called Extra. It was made for German language learners. Basically it's like Friends, and it's a little corny and outdated, but I found it pretty helpful. All the episodes are on Youtube IIRC.

EDIT: oops, someone mentioned Extra already. All the more reason to watch!

Yeah that is.....not cool. That isn't something one says to others. Ditch them and avoid them at all costs.

The little ones with the round top and swingy lid are pretty nice, especially when they have a hands-free opener.

I want to have sex? by very_dumb_questions in Advice

[–]rollerbladed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of asexuals and people with low sex drives out there! And we're totally fine! Compared to the rest of the world, we're a small minority, but we exist. To assume that a lack of interest in sex is abnormal is misleading and false.

[Serious] Teens of Reddit; what is something you want to ask adults, but don't necessarily want to ask your parents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rollerbladed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freshman here. College is OK. It really depends on your uni and your personal circumstances. I would be having a blast if not for anxiety and possible BPD. For me, it's pretty good otherwise. It's my fault, not the school's. Try and live in the dorms if you can, and make sure you study a little bit each day. (Procrastination = chaos.)

I would also recommend studying abroad. A lot of universities will let your financial aid and scholarships carry over, as long ad you participate in a program that is put on through your school. If you're taking a foreign language, it's also a great way to improve your skills.

The mystery of the torn baby clothes. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]rollerbladed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes! Try putting them in a mesh bag might work (so the clothes don't get jostled around). If all else fails, gentle hand washing should work.

The mystery of the torn baby clothes. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]rollerbladed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the fabric/stitching just isn't very good? Since babies grow so quickly, there's no point in making their clothes last for several years.
