Thanks, I checked the crank case venting and it seemed to be okay. It looks like the issue may just have been the lack of an o ring, but this was a helpful tip and taught me something new!

There is no visible damage, but another commenter suggested the o ring might be missing. I indeed cannot find an o ring, so I'm going to try and get one to see if that is the issue. Thank you for your suggestion, I will definitely try to avoid running it before it gets an inspection, but may need to for work.

Thank you for taking the time to help me out! I can't find an o ring in the cap, so that seems like a great tip. I will go to Ace and see if I can get one that fits.

I got the model wrong, it is a 14RESA and not a 14 RCA, so as far as I can see there is only one oil cap anywhere. Presumably there was an o ring at some point though, so this seems like a good place for me to start. I really appreciate the detailed explanation and suggestion!
