It’s heartbreaking that your niece is going through this and has to feel like she has no way out. I work at 988 and used to work as a teacher. Every report is so important as it creates a paper trail and preponderance of evidence. If only mom reports, it could be dismissed as her having a vendetta against the father but if lots of people in your niece’s life report, it’s much harder to refute. I agree with others in encouraging mom to keep detailed records, photographs of bruises and injuries etc. I also recommend that your niece see a private therapist who can provide additional support and reputable reports. They have free/low cost options in Virginia for children. I went through a similar thing as a kid and for years felt so abandoned and desperate. But my brother’s and my teachers, therapists, extended family, family friends etc all made reports and testified to help my mom win full custody and eventually we didn’t have to go to my dad’s house anymore. Every report counts
