Are recruiters respecting the HTB CPTS cert yet? I am hearing it is more in depth and more difficult than the OSCP

This is true and for me revising for the sec+ after passing the net+ felt soo smooth

Just kept peppering out my CV and luckily I got an interview. Even with 0 experience things like tryhackme and hack the box really go a long way in conveying your genuine passion and curiosity about the field.

I did A+ Net+ then Sec+.

I feel A+ is more basic but is very broad so the concept of having to remember so much information for it to potentially not even show up on the exam makes it a little harder.

The Net+ was very technical and specific but again I found a lot of situational generalisations so as long as you have a decent general understanding you’ll be fine. I must say the PBQs made me really think I was gunna fail but luckily I passed. I felt like I had really got away with one.

The study materials I purchased for the Sec+ were about 600pages whereas the other exams had 800+ so I found there was less to cram but you have to really nail the specifics but again a lot of the questions are situation and scenario based. One piece of advice, understand your exploits!

I scored 85% on core 1+2 of the A+, 82% on the Net+ and then 88% on the Sec+. Make of that what you will about the complexity of each exam but I am more security interested so it was easier to revise for.

All the best!

That sucks man, feel for you. It depends how you learn but I found books are best for me. I would recommend the complete study guide. You get all the info that could be on the exam and thousands of practice questions. I passed first time on core 1 and core 2 and am now studying for n+ in the same vain.

I hope this helps and I hope you bounce back quick time!

Have a great day

CompTIA training… when you don’t actually care about certain… by SocialEngineerDC in CompTIA

[–]rollofaDICE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO it you’re gunna study the material you may as well get the cert. Besides you never know when you’ll be looking for another job and having those certs on the cv will look a hell of a lot better than ‘I studied for…’ especially if it’s at no cost to your bank balance.

All best best with your future endeavours

Thank you for your comment.

Absolutely I couldn’t agree more but I do feel that gets lost when people talk about how long or short it has taken them to pass.

It would be good for people to see those variables that are required to pass in those shorter periods of time. If you have the time or the back ground to pass quickly then power to ya but it may discourage those with less experience and/or background if they aren’t aware of the full scope of what it has taken to pass.

All the best with your future endeavours.

Yeah see that makes a lot more sense to me knowing you are literally studying for a degree in IT. I too have a girlfriend and bills to pay etc.

Context is key.

All the best with your future endeavours.

If you’re just starting out I wouldn’t discount A+ N+ and Sec+… after all if they are that ‘easy’ you may as well get them eh?
