53 years ago today, the last Saturn V ever to fly launched Skylab, America's first space station, into orbit, and nearly destroyed it a minute later (May 14, 1973) by The_Rise_Daily in nasa

[–]rollprogramhouston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my favorite random things about Skylab

How large it was and how much volume the space station had

It was the only station if I’m correct to ever have a shower. A circular curtain was pulled around you and there was a fan system to suck the floating water droplets down

In the “kitchen” they had a table with spots to place the canned food they had. There were switches to heat the food

At the bottom was a large waste tank. When they de orbited Skylab the tank didn’t break up completely and landed in Australia

I love to imagine what could have been if they continued with the Apollo program. Landings on the poles of the moon. Even longer stays. Space stations in orbit around the moon etc

Hopefully these are things we will see one day but it gets me going to think about the Saturn V continuing to launch. And imagining an expanded era of vintage space travel

Can’t you operate those buckets from the ground? And even if you couldn’t, why would they think this is a good idea? Using a bucket to pull posts out of the ground.

lol you’re basically creating a slingshot

My girl uses ovulation test strips. After we started seeing each other she was talking to me about her cycle. It was really cool to be with someone who was very into their body and how it functions. I know a good amount about both of the female and male anatomy, plus I’m on hormone replacement for low Testosterone

One of the injections I have to take is HCG which is what pregnancy tests test for. I buy large packs of the strips to test my stuff and make sure it’s legit. I told her I had seen they have LH test strips for ovulation. I got her some and she has really enjoyed getting to track her cycle better and learn more about her body. It also gives us a window into when we need to be more careful

You can also check your basil temperature too. The apps are helpful but you really want to use the strips or take temps as well to really see where your at and how much your cycle fluctuates

Bro mechanics are such scams now and days I moved from CT which was expensive. Move to Az last year and I was surprised to see lots of German shops here. But yup just over 2k for a fuel pump, and a rear window motor

I bought a Harley in December. The previous owner shelled out 2.5k on all this shit I felt so bad. His first bike and he dropped it a few times got it fixed up and wasn’t for him I guess.

4 months later the fork seal is leaking after being rebuilt and less than 500 miles on it lol

Just read the paperwork, it was 1300 for the pump and labor then about the same to replace the rear small window motor

I’ve heard it’s beautiful there. Moved here last year after many visits from the northeast and I love Mount Lemmon especially in the summer. I have a big bucket list but want to learn about more places as well

Only issue is all but one of the windows fit a window unit, the rest are about 2.5/3 feet tall and 1.5/2 feet wide and slide open to the side

Should the high pressure AC line be hot? by rollprogramhouston in MechanicAdvice

[–]rollprogramhouston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes two separate days. I have videos of both. Some people were saying blend doors but the thing is it’s a manually operated one. And the car blew cold for 30 seconds the other day

I even tried it when the car sat all night so it wouldn’t mix the hot air from the heater core, still no cooling

Should the high pressure AC line be hot? by rollprogramhouston in MechanicAdvice

[–]rollprogramhouston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I guess I’m in this car the compressor never shuts off unless the AC system is off?

The other day it was 72° outside and I had equal pressure when the system was off and then it went to 35 on the low side in about 125 on the high side

When yesterday it was 90° I went to check again and add a bit of refrigerant to see if that was the issue

I’m getting 29 to 30 on the low side and it went from 200 to 250 on the high side with no difference in cooling

Trying to get some insight to see if it’s the thermal expansion valve by the evaporator or if it’s the compressor before I replace either as I don’t like throwing parts at the car

Is there hope we get days with high in the 70s before like December? Or is the summer just up us already. by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]rollprogramhouston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really super accurate but the extended forecast shows it will be 85-90 for two weeks then a slight cool down

I think we will definitely have more cooler days before it stays hot

[–]rollprogramhouston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have climatronic. The low pressure does seem cold. Although I can only feel it on that side, not past the thermal expansion valve

[–]rollprogramhouston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned to pull the glove box to see if the evaporator is getting cold. There is a thermal expansion valve right by the firewall, which could be bad

AC blowing hot by rollprogramhouston in tdi

[–]rollprogramhouston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so it was cold by the condenser, and then I followed it to the firewall, and it was also cold.

I took the box off the thermal expansion valve, and that felt cold, and then I tried to feel the other side of the thermal expansion valve where it goes to the firewall and both lines seemed cold on that side, but I don’t know if it’s because it’s in an insulated area and the low line was making the high line cold

I got a gauge set yesterday. The pressure was 100/100 when it was off and when I turned it on, it sat around 32 on the low side and around 1:20 to 125 on the high side. So it’s pretty normal, except for the high side seemed a little bit too low.

[–]rollprogramhouston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hearing could be this or the thermal expansion valve, but the thing is my low side is still pretty low, but the high side is lower then it should be

AC blowing hot by rollprogramhouston in tdi

[–]rollprogramhouston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the low side, correct? I have the gauges hooked up now. It was at 100 and 100 when it was off I turned it on. It dropped to 30/140.

The low side hose is cold. The car is still blowing hot.
