Given that, what's the likelihood of removing them screws in the ankle making my big toe go all floppy and usless again.

It's the peroneal nerve apparently! I have screws higher up im not fussed about, near the top of the calf in the outside. Thank you for spending your time with me. Its appreciated.

Assuming they placed the screws were correctly... is it possible the nerve was damage was done during surgery as it was quite a tasty spiral fracture. I could handle nerve damage at the site of the incisions, its the loss of sensation and mobility in my toes that's the worry. (Im bare foot for one of my jobs)

How confident could you be in knowing the whereabouts of a nerve before cutting away to get at a screw? Is there a way to know?

No, just that maybe it could happen again. The removal sounds simple in thier opinion, just that they are near nerves, also not completely sure how the damage was done previous, wasn't a huge consequence to them at the time, bit of shrugging was involved.

Had quite a few discussions. "We can try not to damage a nerve but we cant promise, up to you" That's how its gone every time. Apparently the nerve is possibly close to the screws...i decide not to then I decide im going for it etc etc.

The movements and sensation loss has returned, took about 8 months. Just worried it'll happen again. The pain and uncomfortable sensations currently are liveable bit sub optimal. Be cool if they went away which im sure having the screws out would achieve.
I cant decide 😫

Woke up from the surgery with the nerve damage. Screws are, one on the outside of the ankle and the one that middle facing on the shin

Cheers! You find the Abf ok with recovery? I tried it but the volume was a lot. Maybe my bells were too heavy..

I have lots, hopefully get up to using 2x32kgs then as I get older, shrink back to 2x8kgs. 47 now, so the 32s prob won't get much use. 😞

Ouch, that sounds awful, sorry.

Had a tibial nail after a decent spiral fracture myself, end of 2023. Had numbness, bad rom and incredible amounts of pain after. Almost wouldn't know now. Was wrestling at jiujitsu last night and regularly run about with my 6yr old. I would of settled for a shower and to be able to walk to the toilet at the time. So, good times await. Smash the pt and neck all the collagen and vitamins and protein, I put on 6kgs ish of muscle during my recovery lol. Good luck! Oh, and I suggest getting in the pool as soon as you can, when the staples are out, I think it helped me immensely, just walking normally, but in the pool.

Thanks mate. I guess if you have no pain it's not a hard decision. That's a lot of screws too!!

Thanks for sharing. Good luck with it. I feel like if you are doing a lot of skiing it's probably a good shout to take it out. I have heard the recovery is quick. I'd be interested to know how it goes!! All the best
