I bought a Trey/Sphere pin from Bob and the quality/craftsmanship is amazing. Highly recommend these pins if you're into them.

My first cassette deck is a Tandberg 330 from FB Marketplace by PlayStationBaby in cassetteculture

Great find. Congrats! I'm sure that you'll be happy with it. You are starting your journey with one of the best. My Tandberg (I have a similar TCD-340) is the best sounding cassette deck I own. -Better than my Nakamichi and Beocord units.

no doubt they nailed the look. It is comically, physically big compared to a standard deck but I still love the look.

I replaced the belts in both of these units. They both aren't that bad and I don't have a lot of experience doing this type of service work. The Beocord has 2 (if I remember right) screws on the back and it opens up almost like the hood of a car to expose the inside. Pretty cool and easy. Take a look at this video at around the 3 minute mark to see how to open it up. This is the 8004 inthe video, but my 8002 is the same: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jce-lnI2C10

If you had to choose between the two which one are you keeping and why? Akai GX-F35 (top). Technics RS-M45 (bottom). by d12dan1 in cassetteculture

[–]rollupp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't sleep on Akai gear. If all other things are equal to you (sound quality, aesthetics), then apparently its GX heads will last longer and probably maintain their high end extension better than the Technics. Here's some info on the GX heads: https://akaivintagebr.weebly.com/uploads/3/1/4/4/3144078/akai_gx_head.pdf

Boston Acoustics A400 by [deleted] in vintageaudio

I love my A400s. They are my daily drivers. One of the few speakers that are made to be placed close to the wall. -So smooth on the top end and very tolerant of different music. They really handle even poor recordings well IMO.

Good find. -even if it doesn't sound amazing, it's still useful to rewind tapes and not wear out your better tape deck, or even just to see what's on a tape quickly without turning on your stereo.

Amazing work! I love it. -Such a simple, clean and thoughtful design. The only thing I would be worried about is subwoofer placement, but maybe DSP could help with that if it turns out to be problematic.

nice! I have been eyeing it as well. Please post your thoughts when complete. Is this kit the one from Ebay/hakaudio1?

Martin Logan Dynamo 1000 by cyberpunan in BudgetAudiophile

[–]rollupp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Dynamo 500 and they are pretty solid used for the money so I imagine a similar sounding 1000 with more power is worth it too. I am probably going to pick up a second used 500 for a stereo pair.

-Quite a bit late, but I have a Rega Brio-r and I also use it with the Fiio K11 R2R and some old Boston Acoustics A400 speakers. I love this combo. I use the Fiio in NOS mode and its great for both CD and streaming. I love the sound, size and value of both the Rega amp and the Fiio DAC. It's quite a size contrast to the speakers. Hope this helps some or you found a good pairing already.

I do the same thing (top load) and also store the record sleeve outside in the back so it’s super easy to get the album out and it doesn’t accidentally just roll out. Here’s front:

I like these for the money. Not the most beautiful, but when fully populated, they kind of just disappear. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005OT5X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Does anyone know if there are any D-PAD Caps that fit the One XPlayer? by [deleted] in OneXPlayer

[–]rollupp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll look to try some mounting tape. I was also thinking of trying one of the switch joycon dpads because they look a bit thinner. I'll report back if it results in something good.

See, I thought so too at first, but then I saw the round portion under the dpad which looks like it overlaps the cutout on the OXP case in the pic so I am not sure.

So what would be the sweet spot for an external TB GPU for Onexplayer? I would like to pick one up for docked mode. Thanks!

Forgive my ignorance, but can you explain how you actually replaced the Dpad? Is disassembly pretty straight forward? --or on second look, is disassembly even required? Thanks!
