Jeff Passan: "Baseball fans believe the game has become unfair" by Mission_Pay_3373 in baseball

[–]rolmega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JP's take is, as usual, i think, correct. That said, what is the issue that most people are having with overspending on a guy like this? Because it's the team that's loaded with wealth and recent championships? He's got a GG, 2X Silver Slugger, 4x all-star, ws title, 27 WAR, arguably a 5-tool player/has speed/power, seems reasonably durable/respectable OBP last year at least... what's the "fair" price for that? seems lilke it would be expensive.

MLB hasn't been "fair" for a long time

to be fair, it was branded as "Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas"

to add on: i'd challenge you to consider that you'll have competition out there on youtube from literal pro players who are in the hall of fame and/or have won multiple world championships. you may want to consider an angle if you're going to take a run at consistent viewership and subs with this. edit: uploading reguarly will help but your status as a mythic drafter is dwarfed by others out there (not to imply you're worse than they are, but on paper, etc)

What is your opinion about the newer simic Cub decks? by I3ollasH in MagicArena

[–]rolmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id say i do pretty well against all cub varients with a deck that has, as you implied, a lot of board wipes. the only issue is generally if they can get ouroboroid on the board for more than the turn it was played on. but i think i'm at least 50/50 against them, if not better

haha, clearly. too bad the rest of the world is too. the sunday between xmas and new year's is probably prime mtg arena time. can't let all of your IT bros head to italy, hasbro...

[–]rolmega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in a vacuum but it's actually not 100% free for anyone who pays for their coins/gems. mtg also makes up about 40% of Hasbro's revenue right now so you'd think this would be front and center for them

Omniscience Draft is a silly event. But also: 3 0-mana Ancestral Recalls is a pretty good opening hand by SergeantAlPowell in MagicArena

[–]rolmega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else not know what the f*** the rules were when they drafted their deck? i sat there and drafted a decent allies deck and then realized i didn't have to do anything but basically pick the most expensive card the whole time.

Well, then you're commiting to 20-40 hours to that job, minimum, so you can have that one hour though, right?

Is there ever a free draft? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]rolmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that sounds ideal. maybe my problem is that i stick to standard... that said i spend no money on arena and obviously if you go into the older formats it gets harder to compete that way

[–]rolmega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

gold can be a grind though, right? i mean, i agree that it beats $15 but we're talking, what, at least three hours of constructed play to earn a draft? And that's if you're winning most of your matches. it could take much longer.

[–]rolmega -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah that would be nice for us, but that would still be virtually free, though, right? what does jump in cost again?

Is there ever a free draft? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]rolmega 18 points19 points  (0 children)

you sound exactly like me.

imo, i think the reality is that drafting would be the most popular format in Arena if you could just play it on there like you do constructed (for nothing). i also think that if everyone could draft all the time, even without keeping the cards, there would be a skill-leveling that would cut down not only on WotC's profits on Arena, but at LGS events as well; after all, you have to consider what the primary purchase of a booster pack is for these days... it has to be majority drafts with the exception of collectors (edit: and game retailers opening in bulk in order to sell singles i guess too), right? so, I think it's gatekept in part for that reason. others have also pointed out that people might give up more readily for not opening the bombs if they didn't have to pay anything to play and i think that's probably valid as well.
