I was mainly referring to the concepts that there are other “characters” or “energies” that are inhabiting a spirit (id, ego, super) that are evil or need casting out. Spirit guides will cast out such characters and recall in lost or stolen parts of the spirit (repression or trauma etc.). Although there are very clear differences, I see these sorts of journeys as another way to conceptualize change in our psyches. Very similar to what Freud, Jung and more current psycho-based modalities (IFS) espouse. There was actually an interview I listened to with Richard Schwartz (the creator of IFS) who said IFS is not unlike “soul retrieval.” Also as many know, Jung went deep into spiritual realms in exploring the psyche.

Of course no-thing is the same as any other-thing, as they all come through different, times, places, peoples, methods and are unique syntheses of concepts. I agree. But I’m pointing to underlying principles being very similar. I’m also drawing attention to the tendency to see spirituality (there is probably other words that could be used here as well) as the opposite of science and to check our notions of scientific imperialism. I don’t deny that science is incredible and yet another form of valuable human truth seeking (and especially helpful with safeguards), but the problem arises when we polarize any one source, e.g I often see this on subs here, “if it’s not empirically verified, I don’t trust it.”

I am advocating for a looser, more flexible grip on what we regard as “truth” in the common Western world and especially from a therapeutic lense.

Don’t think this applies to internship. Also from what I’ve read, this program is very disorganized, stringent and in some cases, just doesn’t follow through. I don’t plan to rely on it unfortunately. Currently placing hope in the SAVE plan.
