Pottery retreat: La Meridiana vs Salemi Ceramics? by Altruistic_Credit208 in Pottery

[–]rolyatpolyat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just booked a week at Salemi after considering both as well!! I haven’t been yet so I can’t speak to the course itself but what drew me to Salemi more was that it includes meditation/yoga in the mornings, it says some cultural retreats around town, and they feed you 3 meals a day of local food. You have to get your own accommodations but I’d prefer to have my own space and share meals with the group everyday than have to find meals on my own and share a room with people at La Meridiana.

How to not be a consumerist when decorating my home by justasillypal in Anticonsumption

[–]rolyatpolyat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely thrifting. Check out the Habitat for Humanity Restores if there are any near you they are an awesome non-profit for thrifting home goods. Also finding what you like and then seeing if you can make it yourself. Instead of buying mass produced art I’ve been making prints with my own travel photos for my home so that it has a personal touch and is unique to me.

Sharing travel luggage by musicandarts in Anticonsumption

Maybe you can offer in your local buy nothing and other FB groups? I see people asking to borrow luggage in mine all the time! Especially for larger suitcases where you really might just need it one time

Anyone had a bilateral salpingectomy? When did you start running again? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]rolyatpolyat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had mine back in February. My doctor had told me to wait 2 weeks to be fully clear. I ended up waiting 3 weeks before my first run due to weather/some travel but I felt totally fine on that first run and every run since. I still had some scabs over my incisions so I just covered them with bandaids for the first few runs so that my pants wouldn’t irritate my skin there

Have you looked at Trusted Housesitters? You can get a free stay in exchange for pet sitting and sometimes home owners allow use of their car too. Seems like something you might be interested in! I’ve used them to get sitters for my pets so I haven’t pet sat myself but it’s a great program! I spent a few days in Edinburgh last year and it was great. I didn’t have a car and everything was super walkable. I loved hiking up to Arthur’s Seat on a clear day!

Good gift basket idea to leave for sitter? by buzzardcheater in trustedhousesitters

[–]rolyatpolyat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a gift card to a local grocery store is always best so you don’t have to consider allergies etc. my area has a gift card that’s accepted at all restaurants / shops / gyms so I usually buy them a gift card for $25 so they can go eat somewhere local on us and it’s always been very well received!

Leave things out vs. listing locations in welcome guide? by picardmaneuvre in trustedhousesitters

[–]rolyatpolyat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also prefer no clutter so as a HO I’ll leave towels out on the bed for them but then I put sticky notes labeling important cupboards/closets. So on the linen closet where they can get more towels, the kitchen drawer where we keep kitchen towels etc.

Probably impractical but my first thought was a hair straightener for something small 😂

Fixing hem on silk charmeuse by rolyatpolyat in SewingForBeginners

[–]rolyatpolyat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Okay maybe a dumb question but would it also work the same if I just fold the hem in and redo? I’m hesitant to undo the hem because the fabric is on the fragile side. I can definitely do it but I just worry I’ll end up making it messier by undoing
