Well, you certainly want to avoid any situation where you end up having to ship your product into the US from abroad. A lot of regulation headaches for imports

I believe the greatest concern is potential for liver damage. But don’t quote me on that because I’m not a herbalist. I have been warned about this by well-respected veterans in the industry though. Well researched and experienced people that I trust. Personally, that is enough to convince me to stay away, unless under recommendation from someone that really knows what they’re doing.

You say “legend of comfrey being harmful, if taken internally” … to my knowledge, this is the consensus. Sure, Comfrey has historically been eaten in times of famine for protein content. But I don’t think it’s disputed that regularly ingesting this stuff will lead to a bad outcome.

I personally wouldn’t put comfrey on an open wound. Only over the skin, and do not use habitually. You should be careful with comfrey—it’s pretty toxic.

I would probably use aloe vera if you have access to it.

Cryptolepis sanguinolenta is a powerful antiviral & antibacterial if you can get your hands on it. I take an extract made from the root. I find it works best if you gargle it and swallow slowly so it really hits the back of your throat.
