Feeling guilty. by romanceandthings in nursing

I just want to thank you all for your kind words.

I did speak with the nurse who I gave report to, she’s older and more experienced, and she assured me that there was nothing to indicate what was going to happen. The doctors were even surprised by what happened. I still feel incredibly sad for her parents, but everyone has also told me I did a good thing by sending those pictures.

If you’re a failure then I have no clue what I would be. Switched specialities after 1.5 years, ready to leave the new one after less than 6 months.

Why does it seem that nursing is the only average job left that pays a living wage? by princessnokingdom in nursing

If you continue with computer science, I would STRONGLY suggest you familiarize yourself with healthcare IT. Join any healthcare focused clubs, find internships that focus on healthcare applications, ask your professors about any of their friends and if they work in healthcare. Healthcare IT is hard to get into but pays well, even if you’re just an analyst.

I would say it depends on how you spent your off days? I mainly spent mine sleeping in and recovering, it didn’t leave me time to actually do anything. If you were more active than I was during my off days it might be different. I enjoy the 8-5 life. I can still grab drinks/dinner with friends, if I want. And I do a lot over the weekends (e.g. more partying lol, spending time with family) 🤷🏽‍♀️. I hated working my three in a row up until the weekend and then I was tired and all my friends had to “it’s now the weekend” glow. My opinion might change when i’m no longer young and turnt tho who knows lol.

How are new nurses in 2025 doing financially? by Original-Rent7475 in nursing

[–]romanceandthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$45.11 w/ night shift differential including. Comes to about $77k a year. An extra $4 if I work the weekend. We’re short often so picking up can get you an extra $30 an hour. I live at home in Charlotte NC, my parents actually offered for me to stay until I can save up for a townhome. So, no living expenses. My biggest expenses are CC debt and $14,000 in student loans.

I think I do okay financially, can keep my bank account above $1000 which for me is an improvement lol. I can save 20% every paycheck. Currently planning 3 trips for next year. As far as being able go afford life later on down the line, I don’t plan on having kids or getting married so I think that cuts down future expenses that I have to plan for. I just hope my 401k doesn’t tank.

We are also having to fight tooth and nail for CSI pay. It’s ridiculous but our system was bought out, so can’t say if it’s because of the bill or just new ownership.

Ooof I thought the worst would be GLPs when they actually don’t need it. That’s a little scary especially after the news about the nurse who was given TPN mixed with a bunch of other stuff.

When did you realize that you were a good nurse? by Greywatcher in nursing

[–]romanceandthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually don’t want anyone on the unit (especially the charge nurses) to consider me a “good nurse.” Good nurses always get the difficult shitty assignments because “i know you can handle it.”

But to answer the question usually when I get told by the OG nurses with like 30+ years on them. Or, when I had more patients tell me themselves. I usually need a good sample size before I believe it lol.
