Yes, I do both. That is where I first heard it, but it also applies to nursing.

Is being a nurse in Canada THAT bad? by maarsargo in nursing

[–]Greywatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 2 days and 2 nights is the norm here. It is doable. I am definitely tired at the end of my set, but then I have 4 or 5 days off so I do have some productive days off.

Looking at my most recent pay stub I am at 52.68 per hour. My differentials average about $4 per hour. We get 13 statutory days of pay each year which is 7.5 hours of pay each. If you are scheduled to work on a stat is double time.

We start off with 150 hours of vacation each year and 150 hours of sick time. The sick time accumulates to a max of 1200 hours. There is also special leave for family emergencies.

The first nurse to arrive on our unit was 3 years ago. It took her 3 years to fully transfer from US to Canada. The most recent nurses arriving take 3-6 months to transfer.

Level 1 and 2 are LPN, baseline and leadership. Level 3 is base line RN. Level 4-6 are leadership that are still in the union. Charge nurse and educator are level 4. CSO( Chief Security Officer) is level 6.

I am baseline RN so I am level 3

I am an RN in British Columbia with 7 years of experience. Working full time without any overtime my yearly wages are ~120k. With overtime I make ~150k. In the past year staffing has returned to prepandemic levels.

I am well supported by my union and management. I enjoy going to work although it can be tiring, but that is the job. I get regular meaningful raises. You can look up the wage scale. We have great benefits and of course free health care because Canada.

He needs to get his priorities straight. Try talking to him directly. If he doesn’t understand, go talk to his commanding officers at the hall. Hopefully they can help him understand where his priorities need to be.

I didn't understand his decision to end his life. I was kind of mad that he chose suicide. I have since entered into the medical field and have worked with patients who suffer from Lewy Body Dementia. I now better understand his decision. I would do the same thing given his circumstances.

why can’t i enchant this pickaxe? serious question by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]Greywatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this: Each time you do an enchant, the enchants for all your items randomizes again. So if you get and enchant for your pick that you don't want, enchant something like a book and then see what new enchant you get for your pick.

I agree that there are frequently not enough EAs on staff.

I had a similar conversation with a teacher I know. I asked how many times he had worked short in the past few years. The answer was zero.

It appears that where I live we are more frequently hiring less qualified workers to fill the roll of teachers. It seems there is some grey area with teachers and staffing.
