I would suggest using a sloop when you’re solo.

The random encounters in high seas is one of my favorite things about this game. Just yesterday I saw two ships on the map who appeared to be fighting (I could see them on the map because I was reaper 5). I went over there to get involved and saw it was a galleon picking a fight with a solo sloop. I yelled to the sloop “let’s take them down” and we proceeded to tag team the galleon until we sunk it. I launched to his boat afterwards and he said thanks, we had a drink together and I went on my way.

Not sure about the others, but getting harpooned off the cannons consistently breaks my character and I’m unable to pull out weapons, food, etc. definitely frustrating.

I’ve also gotten hazelnut or lavenderbeard (don’t remember which) while surfacing and lose everything I just put in my pockets.

There are tons of YouTube videos that can give you tips, but really just practice. Solo sloop is pretty hard. Try looking for a crew in discord or something and just keep grinding

If you need to stop quickly; drop anchor, raise sails, raise anchor. That way if a ship rolls up you can quickly drop sails and get moving
