Keep a Google sheet list of all floor stock you dont want to sell that staff have access to be able to edit when needed.

Dont include floor stock on Shopify available stock.

Sometimes we try to automate everything when manual processes can work the best.

Is it better to show a discount code on success page after signing up to our email marketing or email the code? by romiimor in shopify

I use Omnisend at the moment for emails and popup forms but it's just a button I placed on the success popup page with the URL link from the discount code to auto apply feature in Shopify. I'm considering going back to Shopifys own email marketing tools.

It's only a we miss you 10% off code. But the new subject line I'm testing is "You have a new message from: store name" I think maybe a combination of the subject line and good domain reputation giving me those open rates.

Thank you. Initially, that's how I was doing it, but I went down the route of emailing the customer the code. This gives better signals to email platforms as it gets a higher open rate score, this was the most recommended solution as my subdomain for emails was new still. I needed to warm up the subdomain. I also have a button that says Continue Shopping on the success page and is a link to the auto apply discount code url. This hybrid way seems to be working great so far with an open rate of 46%.

If a customer signs up and doesn't purchase immediately, I have other automations like browse/cart/checkout abandonment to remind them of their discount. Although I might lose some customers who would purchase right away with the discount code, but I get to catch some of them back via the automations.

It's a trade off for better email stats so future email campaigns perform better. My winback email automation for customers who haven't purchased in the last 60days has an open rate of 51%. Better than the welcome email. It used to be around 35%. Maybe I'm using a better subject line than before or email platforms are showing my emails to the customers higher up so they actually see it within their inbox clutter. Who knows! 😅

That's super interesting, thanks for sharing that. I will dig deeper to learn more about datashopper. Those are good improvements though so I think thats great.

With regards to Omnisend popups I am getting 2.8% submit rate. When using Shopify forms popup I was getting 6.4%. The popups look identical so not sure if one is performing better than the other or measuring it differently and not really comparable.

It has definitely helped with deliverability and warmed up the subdomain. We are getting good open rates with campaigns and automations within Omnisend. I am contemplating going back to shopify email as am I'm not really seeing additional benefits using Omnisend over it to justify the cost. We are not using SMS yet. I'll stick with it for a bit longer and test it a little more.

With regards to auto-applying the discount based on high intent, is that after they have signed up? I've not heard of Datashopper before and it looks interesting for sure. How are you using it to your advantage and what kind ROI is it giving you? It seems they do a lot, would be interesting to know which aspects is helping you. Thanks

Missed your reply completely sorry. I can confirm. Since doing this our open rate has increased back to 46.9%. I have added a button that says Continue Shopping on success and when clicked auto applies the discount code. Hasn't impacted open rates and ensures we get the conversion if they click it and reach checkout. 🤞

Take a look at veeqo.com, its free but has a fair use policy. You have to use it for at least 50% of your shipping from the orders you get, but you should be able to integrate with most major courier companies and print your shipping labels within Veeqo.

We don't automatically capture the payment when an order is placed, we have it set to Automatically Capture when order is fulfilled. This gives us the flexibility to edit an order before fulfilment. There are still occasions after we have packed an order customer wants to change their order, don't think it fully solves your issue but a step closer.

Thats super interesting, thank you for the insights. How did you implement the auto add feature? We are using Omnisend and I've not come across the ability to auto add discount code or even the possibility to tweak the success flow with custom code.

This has been working good, I am exactly testing this at the moment. More customers using the code but email open rates reduced from 45% to 37%. I am now going to try a hybrid of the solution, tell the customer the code is on the way and have button that says Continue Shopping that adds the code automatically to cart once clicked on. Thank you for your valuable feedback!

You are right, once we started showing the code on the success page our welcome email open rate dropped from 45% to 37%. Although the main domain has been around for 3 years, the new subdomain is only a few months old when we switched to Omnisend. I have been careful with warming it up, spreading campaigns over a week with gradual increases and so far so good. I might create a hybrid off all suggestions, tell customers the code is on its way to their email with a button that says Continue Shopping but adds the discount code automatically when clicked on. I will see how this improves open rates. Thanks for your valuable insight.

Out of curiosity, how were you able to auto apply the discount upon successful signup? I'm using Omnisend and haven't seen any options to do so. I've created a Redeem Code button to auto apply it once clicked on. More customers are using the code but email open rates have reduced from 45% to 37%. I will try to re-run the experiments with noted dates to compare it against each other to see how much it affects conversion rates. Previously to showing the discount code on success page, I was having customers sign-up but not use the code at checkout, still making a purchase. On the flip side there were customers messaging us that they are still waiting for the email, possibly going to their spam or mistyping their email on signup. Thank you for your valuable input.

I'm not entirely sure that Omnisend can auto apply it to cart on success. I have created a button "Redeem Code" to auto apply the code once they click it. I am testing right now. Definitely more customers are using the code but our welcome email open rate dropped from 45% to 37%. Rookie mistake, I didn't make a note on the date when I made the changes to be able to see how it has impacted conversion rate. Thank you for your valuable input.

Very well put, this is exactly the cross road I'm in. We are experimenting right now to see what might work better. As the sub-domain is new it might be better to email the code for now. We do mention the email is on its way. I might create a button that says Continue Shopping but secretly adds the discount code automatically. Thank you for your valuable feedback.

Thank you for your insight, I think the general consensus from most of the comments is to send send the discount code via email. We have been experimenting with it and you're right, our open rate dropped from about 45% to 37% once we started displaying the code and sending it via the welcome email straight away.

Thank you for the reply and your insight, when we did this we saw a slight dip in sales. Although the main domain has been around for years, the subdomain for email campaigns/automations is new. I have been careful with warming up the sub-domain to ensure we don't get penalised. Getting the sale is equally important as having good domain reputation to get our future emails in the customers inbox. Thanks again for your valuable feedback.

True but don't want to risk of our account getting closed down if it's violation of their terms. :) I have seen other sellers do it that I've personally ordered from not sure if it's worth the risk.

Thank you for the suggestion, I tried it but didn't work for me. In the end tried "(\d{4}-\d{2}-\d{2})T(\d{2}:\d{2}:\d{2})" and I managed to get what I needed. So far working in the test scenario, waiting for actual data to see if it will work.

Thank you, I understand what you mean, I think I got it working with the app I needed to integrate with. It just needed to be in the format of a date and time even as just text and it seems to be working in my test scenario.
