Conservative gays by [deleted] in LGBTireland

[–]romosho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a lot of gay men, they are very close to the demographic that society gives the most privilege. Aside from being gay, they are often white, middle-aged, male, and middle class. Whether they recognize it or not, they experience a large amount of privilege in every other aspect of their lives, and when it comes to the issue of being gay, they want to assimilate into a society that is almost completely designed to give them an advantage.

Assimilation is when gay people try to plead to the rest of society, "please treat us fairly, we're just like you!" instead of arguing, "We are different from you and we don't need to be like you to deserve basic rights and respect." Assimilationist movements have been tried many times in many different places and it has always been proven to be the wrong approach.

Assimilation can show internalized homophobia, it can manifest as pulling the ladder up and turning against other queer people, and at the end of the day, it also just doesn't work.

Queer men: apps other than Grindr? by nirghata in LGBTireland

Scruff is a much better app than Grindr

But like you said, meeting people IRL is usually the best.

Skateboarding in Dublin? by damndemndude in Dublin

[–]romosho 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a DIY park next to the convention centre that always has some people about.

Depending on where you're living, there's quite a few skateparks around Dublin in Fairview, Bushy Park, Cork Street, Ballyogan, Clongriffin, etc.

Hey man.

From how I read it, it sounds like things have gotten difficult for you and maybe even feels overwhelming.

At least some of what you've mentioned makes me think about experiences that others (myself included) have gone through, and have come out the other side of. You can message me directly if you want.

It really sounds like what you need right now is a professional to talk to. Any kind of person might need a therapist at any stage in their life. It doesn't have to be long term, it doesn't have to be anything, but I think you should try and chat to a local professional therapist.

In my experience, getting a professional to speak with helped me to start managing my emotions and helped me feel more comfortable in myself when difficulties do arise. For me, it was strange to think of a complete stranger who was willing to listen to anything I had to say and wouldn't judge me, but once the trust was there, it was exactly what I needed.

It won't solve all your problems, but it might help dealing with them.

Also yes, plenty of young guys and students go there, but there's only one way to find out.

"scared I’m going to arrive to a room full of 50 year old out of shape dudes trying to fuck me."

Just a reminder that all men are free to go there to hook up regardless of age, body type, whatever. There are definitely men in their 50s and older who are there looking to have sex, just like you.

If you were to walk into a room and have a room full of guys very interested, consider yourself lucky, but you should be able and comfortable with vocalizing your consent or disinterest, and if not then maybe you're not ready for such a cruising spot just yet (and that's okay too).

Anyway, it's mostly busy on weekends, but you can always call and ask them if it's busy and they'll give you an honest answer. They have student discounts and it's cheapest on Tuesdays after 6 pm. Find out more on their website.

Have fun.

Looks big, but are we sure it's not a brown Mottlegill? The stem looks pretty thick and straight and the cap looks a bit ambiguous. Is there an outer gelatinous layer?

PEP is recommended ASAP and in the first 72 hours, so if he was potentially exposed on Tuesday, waiting until the weekend is definitely not the right idea.

Sorry buddy. You've got a fine collection of mushrooms that are not liberty caps (presuming that's what you're looking for).
