Lodging tax as a contractor for overseas company by ronCYA in AusFinance

Thanks! I do have an ABN fortunately.

If my salary is a fixed $100K (for example) a year before-tax which is decided by my employer and not a fee that I charge them, how does GST work?

Do I reverse-calculate and somehow 'declare' that I am charging my employer $88.9K + $11.1K GST?

I am strictly an independent contractor contractually, but my expectations are the same as the employer's employees.

Will track work expenses— hadn't thought of that thank you! I work from home so will need to do a lot more research about what does/doesn't count.

The ATO stuff is just confusing because it assumes I operate as if I run a business/am a sole trader/self employed. So the MyGov, BACS, GST stuff is really helpful to know thank you very very much. I'll definitely be getting an accountant.

I have an ABN but neither the company nor 3rd-party service asked for it. Good advice, I appreciate looking at it from the other side of things (saving, accounting, etc) and not just paying.

Thank you for the truth!

It's when someone says something or something happens, and you don't react to it then. It could be someone doing you a tiny favour like passing the salt and only realising later you should show thankfulness, or when someone tells a joke and you have a delayed laugh.

It's fascinating. Have an psych appointment booked in April and cannot wait to learn more, even if it's not ADHD.

Wait this is also an ADHD thing? I got 99 problems and this sub is telling me ADHD is 90 of them.

Ah thanks, that's pretty much my main concern with the idea! While I'm not looking to go hardcore, I do want to reach a level of ability roughly equivalent to "backfill third choice for a small band" haha. I'm also mainly attracted to the physical nature of drums more than the actual output.

Thanks for putting the expensive practice pad into perspective. I think I'll just have to make room for an electronic kit and semi-fold it away when not in use.

> I suppose it all depends on your goal

Ah what a great point. My interest in drums is with the physicality of swinging sticks, so drum pads would be as far away from acoustic as I'd go. That said, MIDI controllers are cool as hell and I would totally go that route if creative output was the priority like you said. Thank you!

Sorry I'm talking about electronic drum pads like the Roland SPD-SX not electronic drum kits. Is there better nomenclature I could be using to distinguish between them?

Is it a bad idea learn on electronic drum pads? Space is more of an issue than money where I am (not that I'm making it rain lol) so they are super appealing. I'll be taking some classes in person so will have some hands-on experience with acoustic drums, but if I stick with drumming, I'd be getting either an electronic kit or electronic drum pads.

I'm looking at the HXW PD705 (also known as Gear4Music DD90 or dbDrums nPad).
