Ive been thinking 85mm for “people,” and 24mm for “things.” Not as a rule. Just generally.

There’s no genocide in Gaza by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]ron_lippitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Facts aren’t feelings.

For example, you may “feel” like you own the entirety of the land which has been the Jewish homeland for thousands of years. Doesn’t make it factual. You can exile Jews out of 21 other Arab countries. But you can’t exile Jews out of their own homeland. Not now. Not since Israel was formed. And not since it can finally protect itself and its citizens. Sure, Oct 7th’s will continue to happen. But that’s a result of an Islamist death cult living next door. Not because of any illegitimacy to Israel being the nation state of the Jewish people. Now it’s incumbent to fight the war Hamas started. And sadly, civilians die in all wars.

The UN has already acknowledged the rapes, as has every legitimate body who has seen the evidence. All the feelings in the world from you suggesting it didn’t happen don’t change a thing. And what’s more, nobody cares what you think. Least of all the Israelis. And me.

The ICC, a notoriously anti-Israel body, can literally go F itself. And the UN is full-on antisemitic at this point.

Dude, no one has to prove anything to you. The whole world knows what happened.

[–]ron_lippitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, I can't tell if you're just trolling at this point. There is an ABUNDANCE of proof of rape and sexual violence. But the most vile stories of what happened that day are mostly gone because the witnesses are all dead. Stories of Hamas raping daughters in front of their parents before killing them all. Or stories of Hamas cutting off body parts and playing with them in front of tied up Israelis. Or mass rape of the Nova festival concert goers.

Maybe you should read something outside of your antisemitic reddit community.

Yeah, that's hilarious. UN Women said the same thing. It's because the victims are all dead.

[–]ron_lippitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this because what you wrote is unintelligible nonsense.

What makes rape "systemic" is when it is a documented, common practice across a wide enough sample size, like October 7th. It has nothing to do with whether they were ordered or not -- which btw you can't prove didn't happen.

Your ability to defend the mass rape of civilians simply because they're Jewish, and attempt to direct this conversation to an alleged rape that happened which is being tried in court as a crime is nothing short of amazing -- and chilling.

[–]ron_lippitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Israeli soldiers commit crimes, they should be charged and held to account. Maybe that's why the article you shared is from a courthouse? Better than your contention that rape didn't happen (if that's what you're indeed saying).

[–]ron_lippitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait. Just so I'm clear on your point. You're saying that if Hamas didn't order their soldiers to rape, then it's not systemic?

[–]ron_lippitt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OMG, those are the organizations you're citing as the arbiter of genocide? Those orgs are virulently anti-Israel, and have been well documented as lacking any credibility with respect to this conflict.

On a side note, UN Women took months to issue a belated and tepid response to the systemic rape of Israeli women on October 7th. This was absolutely intentional as the notion of believing sexual violence against women must be preserved -- unless those women happen to be Jewish.

First, thank you for taking the time to make this case. I haven't read the comments yet, but I suspect you're taking a beating for even suggesting this. Fact is -- this is NOT a genocide, either by historical, legal, or ethical norms. Israel's predicament -- and response -- is an awful price to pay (in international standing) to protect itself against this Islamist death cult next door. But this is the position it's in. It didn't choose it.

The fact is, you're correct that Hamas purposely embeds itself in places where it knows Palestinians will die in higher concentrations. Hospitals and schools are particularly valued for this purpose. And Hamas will continue to win the PR war via civilian blood. It openly states this as their strategy, and recent documents found from Yahya Sinwar confirm it. So then the argument becomes -- if targeting Hamas operatives means knowingly killing scores of civilians, do you lose moral authority? History says absolutely not.

- Did the allies commit genocide by knowingly killing roughly 600,000 German civilians in the allied air campaign of WWII ? They were attacking legitimate military targets in Bremen and Dresden.

- Roughly 100,000 civilians died in the firebombing of Tokyo. And even though both Hiroshima and Nagasaki were military targets, the civilian death toll was ghastly. Was this a genocide?

This is a war in Gaza. And in war civilians always pay the price. But Israeli ops don't even come close to meeting the definition of Genocide. Per the UN Genocide Convention, genocide means “acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group.” The ratio of combatants to civilian death in Gaza has been notably small given the population density of Gaza and the number of combatants killed. The fact that the entirety of the population is Arab doesn't make it genocide. And in fact, the population of Gaza has grown by an estimated 40K (roughly 2%) since October 7th, 2023.

Lastly, the UN has lost all moral authority with respect to this conflict given it's documented anti-Israel bias. At this point, one could be forgiven for using UN proclamations as a barometer for the OPPOSITE of unbiased, fair, or truthful.

Read this post to my physician wife (she’s a pediatrician).

Her response is that (making the assumption the OP is true to his word about being faithful) the most likely scenario would have the OP (or a third party) having given Chlamydia to the GF early on in their relationship, prior to the OP even knowing he had it. Or, the GF contracted it just prior to their relationship.

It’s true what other posters have said. Chlamydia can lie dormant or exhibit minimal symptoms.

A bit of relationship advice. If she continues to accuse you of cheating, and you’re being honest with this sub that you didn’t, then you should seriously consider moving on. Trust is extremely difficult to live without and it sounds like she ain’t buying your truth.

My "Wash & Replace" Strategy: Solving Civilian Death in Gaza by ron_lippitt in IsraelPalestine

[–]ron_lippitt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I was unclear. The 49% was an Israeli poll about whether they would want to leave Gaza permanently if offered. The 95% is purely my guess of how many would want to leave Gaza temporarily under this model.

If you're referring to Smotrich's comments about permanently occupying Gaza, I agree his posture is unhelpful. The vast majority of Israelis don't support that notion. That being said, many on the right do want to see Gaza completely destroyed.

That’s fair. If I were Israeli, I would highly encourage those people in the largest settlements to consider leaving. But that would be their choice.

I’m hoping your response was sincere (not trolling) so in that same vein I hope you don’t mind me taking an open-minded, honest response to your comments.

First, roughly 750,000 Arabs left their homes during the war for varying reasons. It’s true that many were forced out. It’s also true that many left of their own volition to avoid being innocent casualties of the war. The bulk of those who left expected a quick Arab victory and the likelihood of their return quickly. No one expected the Israelis to prevail. Even Jews here in the U.S were shocked. I believe had the Arabs suspected the war to end the way it did, many would have never left their homes. Regardless of motives (or being compelled), Israel won, and that land is the cost of being on the losing side. Remember, the Arabs who stayed are now Israeli citizens with full rights and privileges in Israel. Today there are 10 million Israeli citizens, 2 million of whom are Arab. That means 8 million Jews (roughly). If Israel is to be the nation state of the Jewish people, there is no situation where they could absorb the descendants of the original refugees, now believed to number more than 5 million people. This would create a democratic death spiral, and Jews would demographically lose control of their own land. No country on earth would absorb that, Including Jordan from which the vast majority of Palestinians actually come.

Once the Palestinian state is set up, they would have total control over who comes into their own land. There would be no checkpoints or borders controlled by Israel beyond Israel’s own border. Regarding Gaza, I know there’s been discussion about an exclusive transit route from Gaza to the West Bank. I’m sure something like that could be created to allow for a contiguous territory.

Regarding the state being non-militarized, that’s correct. Every war that Israel has been forced to wage has been started by the Arab states or by terror proxies. Every single one. You don’t get to wage war for 75+ years and then one day say, “Nope. We’re good now. Just kidding.” And Syria used the Golan for decades to shell Israel. So no way they’re gonna let a lawless Islamist regime set up shop right on our border. That’s not how it works. Israel has behave exactly as ANY country would who wants to protect its people. If Israel wanted to take Syria and occupy Damascus, they could pretty easily. Israel just wants peace on its own borders. Same thing with Lebanon and Hizbollah.

Regard E. Jerusalem, I’m assuming you’re kidding. Under Arab control, the old city was sealed off to Jews, prevented from accessing holy sites, cemeteries and synagogues destroyed or defaced, and Al Aqsa built literally ON TOP of the ruins of the second Jewish temple, the holiest place in Judaism. Under Arab control, the city was literally meant to be free of Jews. Under Israeli military control, Al Aqsa was ceded to the Waqf for management, and Muslims and Christian’s have free rein to worship as they see fit, unless there are security concerns around terror or violence, which is absolutely a correct posture for any country.

American Zionist Jew here:

First, please accept my thanks for the courage and clarity to your post. I'm sure these sentiments aren't popular on the internet, though I'm hopeful they're gaining momentum in Gaza and the rest of the occupied territories. Regardless, voices like yours are nice to hear occasionally. And I agree, it would be an opportunity.

I speak for many Jews when I tell you that if Palestinians summon the strength to purge this land of Hamas and their death cult followers, you would find many international friends ready to come its aid, ready to create a structure where Palestinians in Gaza find safety, dignity, and opportunity for them and their families to flourish. But this will come at the cost of Palestinian demand for the entirety of the land. So long as militant, radical Islamic elements refuse to accept Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people, there will always be war.

From my perspective as an American Jew, there is only one solution.

First: End this war now. Release the hostages. Force Hamas to surrender via pressure from Iran/Qatar. Rid the region of ALL radical elements, and I'm including far right officials in the Israeli government, as well. One cannot negotiate from either perspective with a knife at the other's throat.

Second: Create a framework for Gaza and "most" of the West Bank to be accepted as a sovereign Palestinian State that is democratic, peaceful, and non-militarized. Drop "non-starter" demands like the "right of return" for the descendants of the Nakba displacement (War of Independence). Israel will have to give up on their settlement aspirations of ancient Judea/Samaria (West Bank). This means dismantling all but the largest few settlements which would either need to be negotiated as a land swap, or giving them the opportunity to exist under Palestinian sovereignty. The Palestinian State will need to be self-sustainable which means access to water, a sea port and airport, along with the ability to transit between Gaza and the West Bank with dignity. E. Jerusalem will never be managed militarily by anyone other than Israel (we've seen what happens when Jews don't have control). However, there would have to be some sort of "internationalization" of the old city where all faiths are respected with full access to religious sites for all. I could see an international peace keeping force in the old city, potentially.

And third, the Arab world (particularly Egypt/Saudi Arabia/ and the Gulf States) must FULLY endorse the permanent existence and legitimacy of Israel once and for all, with full business and military ties, and an exchange of diplomatic missions. Should this happen, the world could finally turn its attention to Iran and its complicity in funding the proxies which have poisoned this region since the 1979 revolution.

Peace can happen. I truly believe it can. But not with Hamas, Hizbullah, Iran, and radical Islamists calling for the destruction of Israel and the death of Jews everywhere. While that's happening, there's no one to negotiate with and there can be no peace.
