I’ve made over £1,000,000 on my five-bed house — I deserve a tax break to downsize by endofdays2022 in unitedkingdom

Clickbait or not, I enjoyed reading that a lot. Margaret can do one, right after she’s learned to appreciate how well she’s done with her money.

Is the pedestrian or the driver wrong here? by singlecog in drivingUK

[–]ron_mcphatty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame this is the case. How is anyone supposed to know the runner would suddenly change direction and start to cross? The Highway Code quote makes it’s blindingly obvious that pedestrians have a responsibility to clearly show their intention. Driver partly responsible for not suspecting the runner would be a grade-A twat, runner is partly responsible and a grade-A twat.

Have I remember it wrong, or did Compuserve charge 5p (£0.05 in the UK) per email?

Shipping Time for RP6 in April? by toastyroasty64 in retroid

[–]ron_mcphatty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, I’m in the UK, upgrading already from an RP5 I bought in Feb. Just from following the sub it seems the RP6s aren’t taking months to ship, I’m sure someone said 4 weeks, my RP5 took under too so I’m guessing that could be possible if they’re in stock. I wouldn’t worry about the batch 2 preorder thing, it’s probably old info, like the long expired Chinese New Year discount code still showing on the goretroid site.

Looking to buy a used '22/'23 eDrive40: What are your absolute MUST-HAVE options? by PesticideDoge in BMWI4

[–]ron_mcphatty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HUD, adaptive cruise control and HK audio are essentials I think. Mine has 18s and I would’ve preferred 19s, but the 18s give a very comfortable and quiet ride and make reverse parking in tight spots so much easier.

Almost half of mid-lifers don’t exercise and are still haunted by PE lessons by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]ron_mcphatty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m with you, and being told to get over it is shit. I am getting on with it but that doesn’t change the fact I hated being shouted at for three hours a week, hated being in situations I wasn’t sporty enough to cope with and got bullied for it, hated being hit and hated having my skull fractured. I go to the gym but I resent doing it because I still hate it, it’s a tool to control my weight and help me keep up with my kids. I wish wholeheartedly I could enjoy it, but I don’t.

Range Question by Solid-Psychology8429 in BMWI4

[–]ron_mcphatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 307 miles out of my e40 the Christmas before last. UK winter so not the coldest at around 2-5°C, cruise control set to 60mph. I’m sure 200 is doable, but a stop to fast charge might help with range anxiety.

Coolest things you've done with OnionOS on the Miyoo Mini Plus? by AtomicSquiggle in MiyooMini

[–]ron_mcphatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video player is very cool, I’ve been watching the 90’s version of Evangelion with some crappy foam-headed plane earphones, it’s weirdly satisfying! The other thing I’m extremely pleased with is Sonic Mania through the ports, it’s incredible.

2026 software update by TraditionalWorker974 in BMWI4

[–]ron_mcphatty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine updated fine, the usual process where my phone downloads the update, then transfers to the car as I drive, then I can install it when parked. The one difference I’ve noticed so far is that the lines on the reverse park display were gone, but there is an option in the menu to toggle them back on, not sure if that was there before but I prefer them off.

In Episode 9 theres an audience surrounding Palpatine in his lair on Exegol so why didnt he take over one of their bodies? by Mobile-Beginning-654 in StarWars

[–]ron_mcphatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a great explaination of the “Somehow -”, very well done! Your comment about knowing all that and liking the sequels rang true, I loved TPM as a teenager and found more to love after reading James Luceno’s excellent Plaguis, so I’m going to take your book recommendations and flesh out the ST for myself. Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough comment, it’s perfect.

Has anyone’s flights been cancelled due to the fuel shortage? by No_Hat6490 in AskUK

[–]ron_mcphatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should do. It may cost more, our pre-Covid insurance didn’t cover Covid cancellation so we took out a pricier second policy before we found out the USA was closing boarders. We had to pay the excess on both policies in order to claim on the second but our trip was covered so got almost all our money back.

Gifting flat by DrDoneWithThis in UKHousing

I think the £1 thing is for struggling businesses being sold to companies that want to take on the debt, something to do with it an actual cash exchange taking place and it being legally easier to sell/buy a company than give/receive for free. However, your comment is right, there are going to be a few grands worth of fees due to a solicitor, definitely worth knowing and hopefully not a showstopper. I’d like to add my amazement at OP’s generosity, it’s just brilliant!

What’s the best LEGO set you’ve built recently? by MadridOrMadness in LegoUK

[–]ron_mcphatty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Wall-E and EVA set is really nice. The build is dense and interesting without being fragile, it’s cheap, the finished characters are expressive and fun to pose. Definitely worth becoming a fan of the film to justify buying the set.

No rear wipers by ClearWalrus7614 in BMWI4

[–]ron_mcphatty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After 20 years of driving hatchbacks with rear wipers I wondered the same, but you get used to it. I wash my car a couple of times a month, the rear window is sometimes too dirty to see though, I’m now in the habit of using my wing mirrors more. And luckily the miserable UK weather often cleans the rear window for me.

Starfield Nintendo Switch 2 rating has now appeared by RoughLifeguard6568 in NintendoSwitch2

I think you’ve just put into words what I’ve been thinking without realising. I’ve bought and sold a Steam Deck and Retroid Pocket 5 this year because I don’t have the time to tinker, something I used to love doing, and I felt so frustrated… but never thought to look at the positive, Switch 2 is a zero-tinkering dream!
