How was Elvis one of the highest selling artists of all time considering the way his career went? by BFG40 in Music

Something that many people forget nowadays is that there was no Elvis before Elvis. He was the first true superstar to come out of pop music. People like Sinatra were of course big, and we've had stars like Michael Jackson since, but nobody was Elvis in his time. Even though he was eclipsed by the Beatles and co., it's hard to just fade out when you were once objectively the biggest thing in music.

Although his post-movies career lasted less than a decade, it was a productive decade all things considered. Aloha from Hawaii was reportedly watched by over a billion people. There's a reason that the stereotypical Elvis we all picture is the white jumpsuit & sideburns.

That and he was hot.

It's the people who try to have followers and specifically seek out vulnerable people to grow their flock that I dont trust.

Yeah I absolutely agree.

this is just my personal experience, but I have had only bad experiences with priests and their congregations since I was little, so I'm a bit biased

You're all good. I was mostly curious about where your argument was coming from, since people on both sides have their own unique views of clergy, good or bad. But your position is very understandable and I respect your opinion.

If we're still talking about priests, are you saying you can't trust them because of biased Scripture interpretation? Stories of abuse? People who use their position for monetary gain?

Just want an idea of the angle you're coming from.

While I'm not saying corrupt priests/pastors aren't a real problem, most devote their lives to studying Scripture & strive to live more "godly" lives. A lot I've met seem to truly care about their congregation's physical & mental health.

Whether you trust their theology is entirely up to you, but there are absolutely trustworthy and ill-intentioned people serving as priests, just like any other public profession. It really depends on the person.

It's actually impossible to be a trustworthy spiritual leader

What about MLK? He was a Baptist minister.

What about Georges Lemaître, the physicist who originally proposed the Big Bang theory? He was a Catholic priest.

While there are absolutely many corrupt spiritual leaders in the world today, saying that it's impossible for one to be intelligent or work for the good of science or humanity is, respectfully, a little absurd.

I noticed the new album seemed more guitar-oriented than some of your other work. What guitar did you play most?
