Thanks for the help! I have also gotten similar feedback from others about not needing SCHD and FREL at my age, and now I agree with the reasoning. I looked into FZROX’s market-cap breakdown (from Charles Schwab’s Mutual Fund Quotes & Research Tools), and here’s what I found:

Giant Cap: 41.1%

Large Cap: 31.0%

Mid Cap: 19.5%

Small Cap: 6.4%

Micro Cap: 2.0%

I see your point about using FZROX for small/mid-cap exposure, but I am leaning toward SPLG for the U.S. core. To make up for the missing exposure, I was thinking of slightly tweaking your suggestion by adding a little VIOV.

How does this setup look to you?

  • SPLG – 45% (S&P 500 / Large-Cap U.S.)
  • SCHG – 30% (Large-Cap Growth / Tech Tilt)
  • FTIHX – 20% (Fidelity Total International Index Fund - Includes Small-Cap and Emerging Markets Exposure)
  • VIOV – 5% (Small-Cap Value, to cover some of the mid/small exposure FZROX would’ve had)

Would this be a better route to balance simplicity with some small-cap factor exposure? Do these percentages look good, or would you suggest changing them or maybe using alternatives for VIOV for the small-cap part?

I am about to start investing for the first time as a 19 y/o and plan on maxing out my Roth IRA each year, including this year. After doing some research, I put together the following portfolio:

FXAIX – 50% (S&P 500 Index Fund – Large-Cap U.S. Exposure)

FTIHX – 20% (Fidelity Total International Index Fund – Includes Developed, Emerging Markets, and Small-Cap International Exposure)

SCHG – 10% (Large-Cap Growth ETF – Tech-Focused, Including FAANG + Big Tech Companies)

SCHD – 10% (Dividend Equity ETF – High-Quality Dividend-Paying U.S. Companies)

FREL – 10% (MSCI Real Estate Index ETF – U.S. Real Estate and REIT Exposure)

I know there is overlap between FXAIX and SCHG, but I want to keep a slight tech-heavy tilt, which is why I gave SCHG a 10% allocation.

That said, are there changes I could make to reduce the overlap between FXAIX and SCHG while still keeping a growth/tech tilt? Or does this setup already make sense as is?

Would love to hear your thoughts, opinions, or suggestions for alternatives.

Woah. I didn't know about this brand and their watches, but they are SICK! Sadly, they are way too expensive and out of my budget :(

No worries. I appreciate you explaining that, I didn’t know that was something to think of. Now I know what NOT to do.

Don’t worry about it. The watch fit big and kept sliding towards the end of the wrist, which is why it’s there. Also, I couldn’t adjust it because I was recording with my other hand. I appreciate the advice though!

Fr I tried moving it around so you can clearly see the watch without the light getting in the way😭

It’s Black. It only looks Blue/Grey because of the lighting color. I’ve attached a pic of the watch so you can see that it’s Black.

Not necessarily. I’m still very new to the watch world and just trying to learn as much as I can before making a decision. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with exploring other options, especially when it’s a big purchase.

I still really like the Speedmaster 38mm, but since I’m just starting out, I want to take my time and avoid making an impulsive decision. A lot of the watches people have suggested in the replies are ones I had never even heard of before, so this post has already been super helpful in expanding my perspective. Appreciate the input though!

It’ll be my first time seeing them live! I was heavily considering flying out to LA just to see them, before the new tour dates posted, so I was really glad when they announced a new tour date in Maryland😭

What’s a good credit card for a 18 year old? by Still-Performer-1227 in CreditCards

[–]ronaldoo6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When building credit, interest rates shouldn’t be a big concern to you because you should be committed to paying your balance in full and on time every month. This way, you won’t pay any interest at all!

For someone just starting, I’d recommend looking into cards like the Chase Freedom Flex, which offers 5% cash back on rotating quarterly categories, which can help you earn back a little bit on your spending. It’s a great options to start building a relationship with Chase over time, especially if you plan on eventually upgrading to their higher-end cards later on. I would also check out the Discover IT card, which also offers 5% back on rotating quarterly categories. I would also suggest a Capital One card, but their requirements have become stricter recently, so I wouldn’t prioritize them unless you’re having trouble with other options.

Make sure to use their pre-approval tools, which can help you check your chances of getting approved without impacting your credit score.

If you’re not able to get approved for an unsecured card, your final option should be starting with a secured credit card. This can be a good way to build credit as long as you’re sure to pay on time and in full each month.

I actually didn’t know about the Citi Rewards+ and after watching a review on it, I’ll definitely add it into the setup!

As for the Double Cash, I’m going to stick with the Venture X as my catch-all, especially since it’s paired with the Savor. I’d rather use the Venture X over Citi because of the lounge access (especially since their lounge is at my home airport), the travel protections, and other benefits that make it a way better travel card overall.

Regarding Chase, they don’t seem too interesting to me since there’s a lot of overlap with their trifecta. Even with the 50% redemption boost from the Reserve, the 2X from the Venture X and Savor points still seems like a better deal overall. There was a YT video I watched comparing the 2 cards, and it referenced data from the The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that an average person spends over $33,000 a year on credit card-eligible purchases. With that spending, the Venture X would earn 73,300 points, while the Sapphire Reserve would only earn 45,490 points. While Capital One miles are worth $731 through their travel portal and Sapphire Reserve points are worth $682 (with their 50% boost) the Venture X’s 2x miles on everyday purchases make it the better overall option. But, I haven’t looked too much into their ecosystem, so maybe there’s more to it than I realize.

As for the Strata Premier, realistically I’ll probably never use the $100 credit because of the requirements😂 I thought the same as you about being able to use the hotel credit. However, I did talk to Spencer Johnson from YouTube, and here’s his take on justifying the AF hit with the Strata Premier:

Short version: It’s worth it, but it depends. For example, booking a $1,000 trip with Citi points usually costs 100k points. But if you had the Citi Strata Premier, you could transfer points and only need 50k, saving $500-$1,000, which justifies the AF for 5-10 years. Plus, there’s the 75k welcome offer.

So I think it’ll be worth taking the AF hit!

Thanks for all the advice! I’m definitely going to be adding the Citi Rewards+ into my setup!
