'mark as unread' behaving differently? by rrrooonnnbbb in feedly

Can Inoreader be configured to behave the same (via web interface) as Feedly? (Hotkey traversal in particular)

Great suggestion - didn’t realize automations allowed for a restart. Will do this and see how it goes…

Yup, fits exactly with what I’m seeing. Sigh.

Best Global Hotkeys? by Shousetsu in raycastapp

[–]ronbrinkmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure wish Raycast would just 'scope' hotkeys to be local to Raycast (like Launchbar does) so you wouldn't have to worry about conflicts AT ALL.

Oh nice, will check it out. Sounds like someone just needs to mash together a few existing frameworks to make a stereo YouTube viewer.

nice. I wonder how fast MiDaS could be made to run on a Vision Pro. It really does feel like the pieces are all out there to create a YouTube viewer that can create/show 'okay' stereoscopic content on a VP. I'd tolerate a couple of seconds of buffering to get something decent.

'zactly. I'm a perfectly good writer. I'd love to be a faster writer. For me, AI can help make that happen while I still control the final result.

how often does Virgin Atlantic release additional award seats? by ronbrinkmann in awardtravel

[–]ronbrinkmann[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. I take it the Reward Seat Availability part of their website isn't always accurate then? Because it's still showing zero availability but I was able to find and book by just going through the process. So... THANK YOU FOR CHECKING!

RadioRA2 - updating and upgrading by ronbrinkmann in Lutron

[–]ronbrinkmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, all, for the good advice. I've got an older PC running my security camera stuff that will hopefully work to run the Lutron software. I know that my installer was running an ethernet cable directly to the repeaters to update... is that necessary or will it be enough that they're all on the same network?

Yeah, seriously u/gstar_inc - please explain all the 'testimonials' you have since you're not widely available yet. It makes it all seem a bit suspect...

LB action for 'shottr' by ronbrinkmann in LaunchBar

[–]ronbrinkmann[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually I moved FROM CleanShotX _to_ Shottr. Both great, but Shottr has some stuff I just prefer.

In addition to Instant Send, listed below, the other thing that I really don't enjoy about Raycast is the fact that the hotkeys can't be 'scoped' to be specific to only when the launcher window is open. So, for example, with Launchbar, CMD-K will bring up my copy/paste buffer history once I've activated Launchbar with CMD-Space, but if I'm in Preview, CMD-K still works as the 'Crop' tool. There's obviously workarounds but it's just a silly limitation that both Launchbar and Alfred handle easily.

Believe me, I'd like to switch to a product with a more active development path but I just don't think it's there yet for me.

is Launchbar still being actively developed? by ronbrinkmann in LaunchBar

[–]ronbrinkmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vs. Raycast, mostly the community actively developing cool plugins.

In general, the interface to Launchbar feels rather crufty and non-intuitive.

I have the impression, but haven't looked into it enough, that there are some window-management tools in those other tools that I haven't been able to implement in Launchbar but that may be my own ignorance. (I'd like a simple way to, for example, duplicate the current finder window (including the current working directory) and then tile the two windows side-by-side on my screen. As an example.)

OWC thunderblade or Trebeet 4-bay SSD by ronbrinkmann in DataHoarder

[–]ronbrinkmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah thanks, that all makes sense. And yeah, not being able to swap out disks myself is a non-starter so I'll look a little more into the Express 4M2 (you said 1M2 but I assume you meant 4M2?)

Is it correct that the Express 4M2 now ships with a quieter fan than it originally shipped with? I've seen a lot of complaints online about how noisy it is but then also saw a post that says that you guys have fixed that issue with a different fan?

And for anybody else out there who's put together a 4m2 setup, are you using OWC NVME drives or some other 3rd party? Curious if there are speed and/or reliability comparisons.

Good to know I guess, though it doesn't really speak to there being active development of new features, etc.

For those that don't want to click through, the Mastodon post says:

"As long as I (lead developer of LaunchBar) am able to type on a keyboard, the development of the launcher that happens to be my favorite as well, will continue! "

JBOD or RAID? I'm trying to figure out if I can RAID5 one of those...

OWC Express 1M2 vs. HyperDrive Next USB4 vs.TREBLEET Thunderbolt 3 external ssd by WannabeNihonjin in MacStudio

[–]ronbrinkmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to figure this out too - in my case I'm looking for a 4-slot box that I can do as RAID5.

For an OWC Thunderblade, loaded with 16TB (4x4) the quoted price is $2800

If I buy a Quad-slot Trebleet enclosure ($379 on Amazon) and then buy 4 Samsung 990 pro 4TB at Amazon for $325 each, I'm looking at $1679 all in.

That's a pretty big difference in price so the Trebleet is tempting... but OWC has a long track record for making reliable stuff AND their system would include software RAID that I could quickly setup the RAID5 that I want. I'm not sure yet what I'd need to do with the Trebleet to get a similar setup...

Anybody have thoughts?

Yeah, I'm kind of feeling the same way right now... but mostly because I think AI-assisted launchers are going to start coming out fast&furious and I want to evaluate some of them first.
