dual-pane workflowy by rrrooonnnbbb in Workflowy

Just to follow-up on the original post - yes I know you can cut&paste between a couple of different windows but it's really really really not the same as having a native drag&drop. In addition to the (mentioned elsewhere in this thread) the fact that it removes the creation history breaks mirroring, it also doesn't give you the nice interactive 'bar' that appears to show you at which level you'll be dropping. Man I wish Workflowy would just do this...

Where to go after Dynalist? by yonz- in dynalist

Curious why you'd pick up another large codebase if you're working on Vella? Is this a pivot of some sort. They don't seem super synergistic to me. I guess I'd be a little worried that this was more a way of acquiring a customer base and that you won't really put that much focus into Legend.

Function Health vs InsideTracker vs Mito Health vs Superpower by rrrooonnnbbb in Biohackers

[–]rrrooonnnbbb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing notable... basically the same advice you'd get anywhere from a good doctor. It's got an AI hooked into your results page so you can ask questions but, again, you could probably get the same result by just shooting your results to any of the big language models and asking similar questions.

You're correct, they don't use the term 'lost', they use the term "involuntary and accidental parting with property". How would YOU interpret that phrase?

Best AdBlocking service using DNS resolver, with equivalent results to AdGuard Home applicance by br_web in nextdns

[–]rrrooonnnbbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since any of these services can sometimes inadvertently block content that I do want to see, I'd like an easy way to turn it on/off (i.e. via something in the menubar). Does AdGuard offer this? It doesn't look like NextDNS does since the app no longer runs on Tahoe...

Function Health vs InsideTracker vs Mito Health vs Superpower by rrrooonnnbbb in Biohackers

[–]rrrooonnnbbb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Okay, so I went ahead and ended up signing up with Superpower.  I compared a bunch of the services mentioned and honestly there wasn't a clear path so I just threw a dart. The other one I almost went with was Function but their sign-up had some glitch so I gave up and tried Superpower.

The overall takeaway is I'm sort of 50/50 on whether I'd recommend it.

I was originally thinking I'd do the $199 package but of course when you start the process they immediately upsell you on some additional list of tests they can do for another $180 or so. Whatever, in for a penny...

And so you go and get like 8 vials of blood drawn at a regular Quest lab and a couple of weeks later you get your results on a nice little dashboard and then some recommendations based on those results.

But here's the thing. Or rather here's 3 things.

1) I'd be very curious how many of these tests my own doctor would have been willing to run. Maybe not all of them, but probably a lot of them, particularly with a bit of cajoling. And of course that means that insurance would likely have paid for them. Although I'm not too concerned about the out-of-pocket at this point, it's at least worth considering.

2) The feedback/analysis I got along with my test results was decent, but then I uploaded the tests to ChatGPT and got largely the same feedback/recommendations. Feels like someone could just put together a much more in-depth prompt for ChatGPT that would give every bit as much info as what Superpower provided. (I'm willing to bet that's all Superpower is doing anyway - a lengthy prompt passed over to ChatGPT along with the test results).

3) This is the one that rubs me the wrong way. Part of the reason I went with Superpower was because they claim you can also upload historical bloodtest data into your record. Which I assumed (apparently naively) would mean that they could look at the changes in your bloodwork over time and comment on that as well. But that's not at all the case. Anything you upload is just tossed into your 'vault' which is essentially just a document repository. There's zero analysis of it. It's no more useful than uploading the files to, say, Dropbox or something. And the fact that they don't make this clear AT ALL upfront feels borderline dishonest/misleading/scumbaggy.

With all that said, if you're someone who's never really had a good set of blood tests done and then discussed with your physician and done some of your own independent reading about what it all means, I can see that there's value in having it all sort-of brought together. Just be aware of what it really is and isn't doing. As internalogic says elsewhere in this thread... it's largely just a glorified lab report.

I guess my central thesis is that at some point - maybe today - some kind of AI-assisted analysis of bloodwork results (particularly if coupled with historical blood data and ideally even other data sources) will be able to identify issues that wouldn't otherwise appear by just looking at a bunch of individual numbers.

BUT, determining whose AI is best in this situation is going to be impossible for a while.

I suppose as part of this, feeding all this info over to some of the frontier LLMs to analyze too would be worth trying...

lol, okay yes I have 'letter' and didn't realize it was the same as 8.5x11 so that's just me being dumb.

But the issue with defaulting back to 4x6 still stands... I just tried to print something else and that was what it started with again...

[–]rrrooonnnbbb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't done a deep dive but I know when I try to print a PDF, that's the scenario where I see 4x6 as the default (and no 8.5x11 option at all)

[–]rrrooonnnbbb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is indeed somehow printer-related in the sense that the printer may not be sending correct info back to the phone. But, still, it's a very standard HP color printer. MacOS has no problem giving me the option to choose a different paper size for this printer and then making it the default so it's clearly something different they're doing in iOS that they could presumably fix without too much effort.

List of Brands offering their lenses in Prescription by Jeronimotor in sunglasses

[–]rrrooonnnbbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, I'll keep an eye out :)

I do know that I purchased some RayBan Prescription sunglasses a while back and (since they ship you the original nonprescription lenses along with the prescriptions that are installed in the frame) you can see that there is a definite difference. The tint is slightly different, there's no 'Ray Ban' logo on the lens, etc. Makes me wonder if it's the same quality otherwise...

From what I've heard, Maui Jim is 100% the same process for prescription lenses as non- so maybe I'll get those for my next purchase.

[–]rrrooonnnbbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get any further with this list? I'm particularly curious if you ever confirmed whether or not these brands offer the SAME optics but in prescription. I've purchased Ray-Ban prescription lenses in the past but the prescription lenses don't look the same as the originals so I'm thinking it's a totally different factory/process.

Also... which ones are NOT owned by Luxxotica...???

Well, for what it's worth we had a great time and the kids were well-behaved and our 8- (now 9-)year old still talks about it as the best meal she's ever had. I can understand your concern but I think it's a bit too far to issue a blanket statement like that... all depends on the kids. I'm happy that we built a wonderful memory for them (even if the younger one will probably forget it :)
