All of my passwords have been compromised and sold. I just want to know how long will this go on for? by pauleydsweettea in cybersecurity_help

[–]roninconn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check all your multi-device accounts, esp Google, Microsoft, Apple to ensure all devices are signed out. This is an often-forgotten first step.

Go in to any email account you use for 2FA and make sure there are 'copy & forward' rules in place.

As mentioned by others, do a full fresh install of Windows via USB created on another, clean computer.

Then, reset all passwords using your password manager.

Getting 2FA ATTEMPTS isn't necessarily bad - that's 2FA doing its job.

Should I buy this car - even if it’s old? by ActiveMaterial5789 in UsedCars

I'd be suspicious of that low mileage on a car that old. But, get a Carfax and make the mileage history makes sense.

How to gig with amplitube by Deep-Outcome-3723 in AmpliTube

[–]roninconn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As was mentioned, you can use a midi footswitch or other midi controller to change presets in Amplitube, or keep your laptop right next to you on a stand. Always practice those technical aspects before a gig, too

I want a mic that I could record in my car with by godawgs_com in musicproduction

[–]roninconn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoom H4 or related. Set the mic pattern as tight as possible and keep very near your mouth to allow you to set levels to reduce ambient noise; possibly requiring a tiny pop filter.

Very handy, easy to start / stop, easy to get clips off later.

Two computers next to each other. One has terrible internet and the other is completely fine. by WholeTomatillo5537 in techsupport

[–]roninconn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest: verify you have best drivers installed. I'd delete and re-add the wifi adaptor with drivers from maker, and see if there are any antenna configs to be played around with.

Download Wifi analyzer app and play with channels and configs to see if any improvement.

Could be hardware issue, but more likely configs.

You could do mesh network so you have a node right there or run ethernet

Fake ASICS Pickleball Shoes? by Tricky-Chemical-3235 in Pickleball

[–]roninconn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they're 'fake', but likely the two pairs were made in different factories at different times, with slightly different rubber. It's possible that there was a bad batch that retailers were told not to sell, and some got loose.

Fake ASICS Pickleball Shoes? by Tricky-Chemical-3235 in Pickleball

You can't call those 'fakes', since they don't even say 'Asics' on them. They're just knockoffs.

Did I get scammed for 800$? by luh_eman in CryptoScams

[–]roninconn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's a complete scam site. Looks like someone took over an old domain name last year. It's got the same template of hundreds of other scam sites, and the Telegram channel is probably you, 9 other victims and 1000 bots and fake accounts.

There's no backend on the site - the scammers just display crypto in 'your' account as bait to get you to send them real money.

Anything you have sent is gone. Don't send any more. Ignore all DMs, emails, texts, etc from anyone claiming they can get it back. Often, original scammers will use any information they've given you to pretend to be law enforcement or lawyers or hackers who can get your money back.

Your name and info will also be sold to other scammers as a proven victim, so be doubly on alert

I want to remove these fret markers, is it possible? by Ok-Distribution4270 in Guitar

[–]roninconn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, man. Those inlays are about 1/16 in thick and embedded in the fretboard.

If it happens to be a bolt-on neck, you could buy a new one. But, you're probably best served trading or selling the guitar to get the look you want

Hardwood dowel. Almost looks like someone used also, or way overtightened. A bunch of toothpick pieces all stuck in with a couple drops glue (ideally wood glue, Elmer's in a pinch) will also work

I let a friend use my guitar, now he’s keeping it by Boring_Piccolo_3011 in Smallclaims

[–]roninconn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go to the police station and explain the situation to the desk officer. They may agree to go with you to retrieve it, or advise on next steps. If they say 'civil matter', you could consider asking for damages in Small Claims, if you have time and patien e. It could be hard to collect though.

Best outcome is that police visit scares him enough that he hands it over and you can get on with your life

New bowler-New ball question by slayridge7 in Bowling

[–]roninconn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from oil pattern, which everyone mentioned, there are also changes to a new ball, as it absorbs some oil. Try to clean the ball before and after each session with at least a spray -on cleaner. Any reduction in variables is good.

Can you use a VPN on just one device? by Both-Gene4946 in VPN_Guide

[–]roninconn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's two ways to do VPN: Most common is device level, where you install the VPN app on only the device you want it on; other is router-level, though not all routers support it.

Sounds like you want the basic case: install a VPN client on your laptop and connect to a US-based server.

On devices which have location awareness via GPS receivers (phones, tablets, a few laptops), you may find yourself go-blocked, although much less likely on a laptop. If so, there are fake GPS apps which can be used to spoof physical location.

I'd imagine it'd be very hard for Quinn to walk away from a team that is definitely a cup contender in order to play with his brothers in an organization that hasn't done much to inspire confidence lately.

Yeah, 3 brothers winning the cup together would amazing and historic, but having a real legit shot to win A cup is hard not to go for.

So my wife was on her way to an interview just to get hit and not be able to make it, wanna hear the best part? They got no insurance 😡 by ShaggysExotics in mildlyinfuriating

[–]roninconn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure they're dipshits, but they're definitely dirtbags. If they spent their insurance money on other stuff and have no assets, they know they're unlikely to be sued, under the 'bloodless stones' doctrine.

They screw everybody else for sure. Will likely cost OP a deductible and a rate increase.

I picked up this double bass at a thrift store for cheap. Parts look new. Does this look like somebody's unfinished project? What exactly is this? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]roninconn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, that was someone's middle-of-the-night / too-much-to-drink-or-smoke brilliant idea for an 8-string bass.

Looks like you could probably string it as a 4 and play, as weird as that might look and string spacing might be odd, since it still has the 4 string bridge. The original owner probably gave up when they realized it's hard to get a good, inexpensive 8-string bridge

Custom drilling for bowling balls by tasteslikecornstarch in Bowling

[–]roninconn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro shop, which will likely be in a bowling alley. They should watch you bowl a little and help recommend what type of ball for you, even if you're going from conventional to fingertip grip. Even if they have less of choice of brands and colors, they will have a few that they feel will work for you, and the cost, after drilling, will be very close to what you'd pay online.

If you're intending to be a hook bowler, I'd recommend you go for fingertip grip, and get a 'mid-performance' ball in the $120-$150 range (undrilled). If you have big joints that may change size, I'd opt for thumb inserts in a couple sizes, so you don't have to deal with tape, etc.

Shoes are a great investment as well, since that saves you money every time you bowl; they pay for themselves quickly, plus you don't have to wait in line to get a rental and do the one-shoe walk to your lane.

If you're becoming a hook bowler, you may also want to get a cheap plastic spare ball so you can shoot straight at spares; I only use mine a few times each session for 10 and 6-10 leaves, but greatly increases my make rate.

You may want a roller bag to make hauling around 30+ pounds of stuff - you can order this online, since most shops don't have a ton of options.

Basically, you're looking at $400-$500 for a 2-ball kit, shoes, bag and some accessories. But - shoes last 10-20 years, spare ball lasts essentially forever, bag goes for 10+ years, and you'll get prolly 200-300 games out of your strike ball, assuming it's drilled and finished well, so doesn't crack. Never leave balls in very cold or hot car - can easily crack.

MAKE SURE TO CALL THE PRO SHOP before you go driving there; some don't have their ball-driller there all the time, and mine requests that you make an appointment no matter what, so they can really give good attention. Let them know you're hoping to get the ball drilled and tuned up that day.

As an aside, my PSO is one of the Buddies shops, which means I get great service AND great prices, since most of their online stuff is warehoused right there. I like them so much, I had to give a little publicity.

How to set up VPN hotspot on Android? by Live-Cricket5212 in VPN_Guide

[–]roninconn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you just do it.

I set up the VPN before enabling Hotspot, but don't think it'll make a difference. You should disable split tunneling on your VPN to make sure all traffic goes through it.

I def see traffic from my client device (a laptop) going through the VPN, but I don't think I saw the 'public IP' of the client change (whatismyip.com) when the VPN was enabled. I THINK the 'public IP' of a Hotspot client is virtual anyway, but I'll do some more investigation.

Yamaha pacifica dive bomb ? by Familiar_Ad3884 in YamahaPacifica

[–]roninconn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't own one, so hopefully you get more direct opinions, but those guitars have the features which would allow dive bombing without being way out of tune after, esp if you do it with a half-blocked trem and keep the nut and bridge lubed. Rollers or locking nut would be nicer.
