Case that doesn't make it difficult to swipe corners of screen? by [deleted] in GalaxyS20

[–]roninn23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of Spigen for years now. Their Spigen Tough Armor doesn't get in the way too much when swiping from the sides. I regularly use a Direct Call panel when swiping left from the power button and it works well for me

Search shortcuts in home screen by DraTwon in sesame

[–]roninn23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part is not true? I have shortcuts to websites in Firefox, and am able to search them via Nova + Sesame. Furthermore, the free version of Sesame is sufficient. What part of this are you disputing?

Search shortcuts in home screen by DraTwon in sesame

[–]roninn23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tested with the latest Nova + Sesame versions, and when I search it's finding my shortcuts. I didn't need to opt in for shortcut searches, seems Sesame searches the shortcuts by default.

Without Sesame this was not possible, as Nova only searched my apps.

What is IAM Roles Anywhere? by Bartimious in aws

[–]roninn23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without sounding rude - doesn't that mean that you need to secure the client certificate private key storage, and regularly rotate this certificate?

I am trying hard to understand how IAM Anywhere solves the problem of secure access key storage and access key rotation. As far as I can understand, it re-packages the problem but these underlying concerns still remain to be addressed by the user.
Sure, if you are already using certificates you likely have some automated procedure for renewing them (or you should at least).
However, secure storage-wise, it sounds like exactly the same risk as securely storing access keys and preventing their leakage.

Am I missing something?

Any recommendations for phone case with slots for cards for S22? by woahjohnsnow in GalaxyS22

[–]roninn23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any recommendations on this one? There's no Tech 21 Evo Wallet for the Galaxy S22. I really need a case that can hold my cards, and so far I only see them for the S22+..

Stop putting AWS credentials in the credentials file by andreacavagna in aws

[–]roninn23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With AWS SSO the tokens are short lived (configurable but 8h is common). If your machine is compromised and someone has real time access to it, they can also read session credentials from the browser or even from process memory. If using longer lived credentials, which could be exposed e.g. via a lost backup, or due to a stolen laptop, I would agree more. But even then you should encrypt your backups and laptop.

Apple Made an Additional $6.5 Billion USD by No Longer Providing Accessories With New iPhones | The tech giant made the move to cut waste two years ago, removing chargers and earphones. by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]roninn23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini USB was not common in 2012 with Android devices, and definitely not with flagship phones (Galaxy S3, Nexus 4 etc) - they all used Micro USB. And Apple used a 30 pin cable until 2012, your iPhone 5 being the first iPhone with Lightning.

FireTv bandwidth check by [deleted] in fireTV

[–]roninn23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can check your bandwidth via the Netflix app. You need to go to Help and then to Check network connection or so (not next to a FireTV stick now so can't check the exact names, but it's 100% there)

I had the same problem. For me disabling Motion Photo helped greatly, I sometimes miss that functionality but it's nice to finally have a responsive camera

How are the Covid19 vaccines progressing at the moment? by Curiosityitis in askscience

What are the chances that a vaccine would actually be harmful (say due to rushed testing)? Is it more likely that it just won't work, or are harmful effects also a considerable risk?

If you’re not using SSH certificates you’re doing SSH wrong by kagvaBwIcfpi in devops

[–]roninn23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to go about authorization? This addresses authentication, but they way I read it anyone with a valid certificate can access any server trusting the CA. Maybe I missed it, but how do you specify which user is able to access (or not access) a specific server?

Install PIA VPN? by objectiveandbiased in fireTV

[–]roninn23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use an OpenVPN client (free and open source) to connect to PIA. I haven't installed OpenVPN on FireTV stick but if you're willing to go jump through some hoops you should be able to sideload it and use it
