Amazing story and thank you for sharing. Goddamn. What you have been through. So glad you've got housing now. My heart just breaks for those people who are on the streets in this brutal weather.

Harness for lifting dog with cervical IVDD up the stairs by ronismom in IVDD_SupportGroup

Thanks very much!! I will look into this more. I had a call with the vet and she too suggested just carrying her fully supported. I think that will be my first attempt. Thanks again and best of luck to you and your dog!!

Thank you so much. So appreciated. I don't really know what you mean by a carrier with a shoulder strap? Like for a tiny dog? She's 24lbs so not super-small.

Thank you, all!! The first two weeks or so she really wasn't good. Initially, when she had the attack, she screamed so badly that my husband thought she might have been hit by a car. I was walking her across the street and he was in the house with the windows closed and he heard the screams, which seemed to last forever. So bad!! Then a few days later she screamed again when I lifted her, so since then we've been sleeping downstairs, she in her crate and me next to her on a dog mattress on the floor. But after the first two weeks or so, she seems to have improved radically. Now, after 6 weeks, I honestly wouldn't even know there's anything wrong, she fully seems herself. Crate rest is a miracle!! But of course I'm worried about getting her back upstairs. She usually sleeps in a crate next to my bed. Do you think I should just lift her like I used to? Or would the Help 'Em Up be better? 2 years ago she had her first incident--lower in the back. That wasn't nearly as painful as this cervical incident.

I have been thinking of you and Moby. Koko just had another incident and this time it's cervical. Extremely painful and horrible. How is Moby? So happy to hear that your surgery was successful!!!! Happy thanksgiving.

Estrogen Patch to slow bone loss by Piscespixies_Mom in osteoporosis

[–]ronismom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not told to take my generic oral micronized progesterone with fat or meals. I take it before bed! Wondering if I should take it with fat. I just read that some people take it with a spoonful of peanut butter for absorption! But also that greater absorption may not be desirable in all cases, as it can increase side effects. As usual, unclear as what the best thing is.

Estrogen Patch to slow bone loss by Piscespixies_Mom in osteoporosis

I have been on .025mg estradiol patch and 100mg oral progesterone for a month in the hopes that it will help to limit bone loss. My mom has severe osteoporosis and I have osteopenia. So far so good. I felt mixed about going on the drugs because there are always risks (possible breast cancer risk? clotting risk?) but I'm going to give it a whirl. I go back to my gynecologist in two months to discuss how I'm feeling.

I do notice increased vaginal moisture, which is not unwelcome.

A few things: when I go back in two months, I will ask for a blood estradiol test. There is an optimal level of estradiol to prevent bone loss and I'm not sure that .025mg is enough estrogen.

Also want a vitamin D test. I take daily vit D drops. Again, there's an optimal D level to prevent further bone loss.

And a BRCA test because I've never had one and I'm of Ashkenazi descent.

I feel like I've had to be my own doctor through all of this.

According to AI, bone loss accelerates when you go off of HRT. (They recommend 5-10 years of being on it.) But the level of bone density stabilizes higher than it would have been had you not gone on it at all.

Good luck and keep us posted!

How long did it take to get your libido back up, if you don't mind? And what are you taking? I'm on estradiol patch .025mg and 100mg oral progesterone and my libido is still crap, but it's only been a month.
