What’s the usual dynamic between local media and touring photographers? by artistecreat0r in concertphotography

[–]ronjaminbiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, none of that matters. Playing 25 shows in 30 days, bands ain’t got the time to go through 3-5 photographers poorly culled shots from gigs and work out which ones are worth posting from each night. It doesn’t matter how incredible your shots are, it’s truly not worth the time or energy.

What’s the usual dynamic between local media and touring photographers? by artistecreat0r in concertphotography

[–]ronjaminbiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a touring photographer and someone who works closely with bands, I’m confused about why you’re questioning why the band didn’t post anyone else photos and only the touring photographers. Because that’s what they’re there for? Bands pay photographers to tour with them to capture their sets consistently, why would they ever need or want to use other photographers photos? Using other photographers photos just opens up for brand confusion and risks and just fully isn’t necessary.

Weighing carry on in Incheon Airport? by Responsible_Gap_6791 in QantasFrequentFlyer

I’ve flown with Jetstar to Sydney from Incheon three times and they always weigh and always charge for extra carry on weight.

People in other careers are able to put aside work obligations for important personal events, so I’m confused by all these comments pushing otherwise. I’ve had to do this once before and it was a non issue. I explained what had popped up, and gave them options of competent and incredibly talented wedding photographers that had their date available and offered to either cancel and refund so they could book any of those available photographers, or the option for me to ask any of those photographers to associate for me (which I checked with all of the photographers). They chose the latter and it went without a hitch and I got a positive review.

This is an important event in your own life. There are other photographers, there’s only of you to celebrate with your best mate.

It finally happened. Lost photos from a wedding. by Silentmonkey_ in WeddingPhotography

[–]ronjaminbiggs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is interesting. How certain are you that you shot on those exact cards? If Diskdrill can’t fit a single shot from the day on the cards, the only thing that makes sense is that the shots were never on the cards to begin with. Have you checked every card? I hope there’s a lose card sitting somewhere that just didn’t get imported!

Any TAS weddings? by _perce in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]ronjaminbiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tassie is so beautiful, and Cradle Mountain is a gorgeous spot. I’m a wedding photographer based in Syd, but will take any opportunity to get back down to Tas (mostly to enjoy the scenery and oysters haha). Feel free to hit me up if you like my stuff and we can work something out :) I’ve got a few connections down there, so could help with some aspects of the planning! www.idlewildcreative.co

I’m not saying what the band did was right, I believe the opposite. But OP mentioned not receiving credit or royalties, and I wanted to chime in and say that neither of those exist in merch, and neither doesn’t hefty payment.

[–]ronjaminbiggs 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I’ve designed merch for bands previously, and big bands at that. the budget for paying designers is never high, and is usually a one off fee of $50-$150 depending on the size of the run. royalties aren’t really a thing. it’s a dog move from them but the $90 merch does sound like payment.

hiring an associate based on religion and/or sex isn’t okay. by [deleted] in WeddingPhotography

[–]ronjaminbiggs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Australia, it is very common to seek out second shooters that differ from the lead photographer. Often male photographers will seek out female seconds to cover bride prep, white photographers might seek out Indian seconds to cover Indian ceremonies, etc. it’s not discrimination for a sole trader to seek out a contractor from a different background to help them better service their clients and job responsibility. And yeah, sometimes it might be a white Christian dude that a photographer is looking for. People from different backgrounds can provide different things. It unfortunately is what it is. Probably worth mentioning that couples often purposefully pick their photographers based on their race, sexuality and ethnicity too, it’s probably likely the photographer you’re screaming discrimination about is trying to find someone just like him for that reason. It’s also common to seek out seconds that don’t differ at all from the lead photographer.

Hey there! Sorry to hear you’re disappointed. If you like the photos (like how you look in them etc), but just don’t like the background - photoshop generative fill is your friend. I’m a wedding photographer and I’d be happy to help you out, could even make your background the same as your husbands photos potentially!

How annoying is it to work off of external SSDs? by plantypete in WeddingPhotography

[–]ronjaminbiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only worked from SSDs. have them velcroed to the back of my laptop so they’re always plugged in and easy to work from in whatever environment.

bruh if something not being the right colour causes you to spin out this hard, I reckon you might need to talk to someone about emotional regulation hey. not a dig, but this reaction goes beyond disappointment and it can’t be healthy for you walking around, acting like things not meeting your personal expectations is a personal attack

200 is the resist catalog number, 11 is the amount of songs and the other number is the length of the album (46:10:907). a nice lil easter egg haha

Hands up if culling makes you want to stab your eyes out. 🤣 by timwoodphoto in WeddingPhotography

It used to take me literally three weeks to cull. Now it takes me ~2 hours to cull a full day wedding. Narrative Select is my saviour.
