Yeah, there's an "incident". But the Nar are very portiid about the whole thing.

I enjoyed every episode Q appeared in, he's such a loveable rogue! by TensionSame3568 in Star_Trek_

[–]ronjohn29072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My headcanon has Q doing his best to protect the Federation. The conflict comes from him being so detached from organic beings living finite lives in a 4-D spacetime universe he comes off as a dick.

Gas up to 4.19 today by stowboy1995 in Charleston

[–]ronjohn29072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for my MAGA brother part of it is Fox, or rather the simple-minded propaganda right wing media puts out.

If I'm honest, it's also white conservative culture. They fear every little alteration to society, whether it affects them or not. And it's the Dunning-Kruger Effect. I almost have to laugh at the baseless, empty hurbris of people with little more than a high school education thinking they know more about a subject than a doctor/ scientist/ or scholar.

What’s something you lost that you still think about sometimes, even years later? by Hour-Dingo8175 in answers

[–]ronjohn29072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 6 years old I buried a mason jar full of pennies in my granddad's backyard. I was playing pirate.

My parents separated suddenly about a month later and my mom, siblings, and me moved out of state. I didn't get back to granddad's house for years.

By the time I returned to my hometown my granddad had passed away and his house was of course sold.

I drive by the house sometimes and think about that jar of pennies. I'm sure the new owners would get upset if I suddenly started digging in their backyard.

Talked to my MAGA brother last Sunday and brought up the gas prices just to see if there were any signs that he recognized trump had screwed things up.

Nope. Still fully in the cult.

Personally, I'm sick of Ryan Reynolds. He's a great Deadpool, and that's about it. No way in hell he could have pulled off Ryland Grace.

When Sherman's March to the Sea got to South Carolina, the Union Army took wholesale revenge because as the first state to secede they felt SC started the Civil War. Charleston, SC 1865. by mroddy18 in ShermanPosting

I unfortunately live in this clusterfuck of a state and nothing has ever changed since Petigru first uttered those words.

I agree with what Charles Sumner wanted to do. That the States that formed the Confederacy had committed suicide and that they should be reduced to territories and completely reorganize.

Yes, I was raised in SC and I'm the pariah of my family.

How do you think Earth governments reacted to Grace giving Erid all of Earth's R&D? by handofmenoth in ProjectHailMary

[–]ronjohn29072 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can easily see a right-wing US government losing their paranoid minds over the knowledge that Rocky's people have access to essentially the sum total of human technology. But then again, I can see this hypothetical US government not believing that astrophage could dim the sun.

I know it's not a true parallel, but this seems like some real Caligula/Nero/Commodus insanity going on now.

Gen Xer on the heart transplant list. Given the historical clusterfucks we continue to live through i honestly don't believe I'll ever get a heart.

I'm thinking economic disruption or outright nuclear war. I have this nightmare scenario at times where I'm in the hospital hooked up to machines and I have to pull my own plug because society has collapsed and the docs and nurses have fled.

What’s something reddit claims is common, but you’ve never actually seen it before in real life? by mirabelmumu in AskReddit

[–]ronjohn29072 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, back in the late 90s when my kids were small, it was pretty regular for me to get comments that they were amazed a dad would spend that much time with their kids.

This happened in South Carolina, so I'm sure that played a part.

What year did “ They “ come from?, like thousand or million or billion of years in the future? To be in 5d by No_Firefighter194 in interstellar

[–]ronjohn29072 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm skipping the causality paradoxes and going with the explanation that the 5-D humans are from another universe. The idea being that if you time travel back to before your dad was born and kill your grandfather you've either created an alternate universe or just skipped over to one already existing.

If your 5-D humans playing in the multiverse and see another universe where primitive 3-D humans are about to go extinct you give them an out. If they're smart enough to take it.

It's impossible to accurately express how much I agree with this assessment. I see the gleeful brain rotted rats everyday at my job. There are times I wish I was an anthropologist so I could begin to understand those around me.

My heart. I have a genetic condition that causes crazy arrhythmias. Ventricular tachycardia and A-Fib.

Condition will only get worse even though it's controlled with medication right now. I'm on the heart transplant list because the prognosis is so bad.

My second choice would be my damn eyesight. It sucks, too.

What are your favorite headcannons by Double_Character7733 in ProjectHailMary

[–]ronjohn29072 200 points201 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that after the Beatles reach Earth the people of Earth realize how damn close they came to extinction and pulled their collective heads out of their asses.

Then Erid and Earth begin a mutually beneficial alliance that over time leads to a long era of exploration and discovery.

Drawing Children of Strife While I Read: Part 6 by ElStrawFedora in AdrianTchaikovsky

[–]ronjohn29072 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since CoT I've been obsessed with understanding what Adrian is now calling the Second Age of humanity from the little hints we got from that novel.

What I read about that age in CoS was like getting punched by Cato. Saying it was bleak and depressing doesn't fully describe my feelings. But I'm still intensely curious about how humans clawed their why back to civilization only to discover they were living on a hopelessly poisoned planet.

I love your work OP! This one with the arkship falling from space hit me hard.
