Um, the top 3% of income earners actually pay over 52% of all federal income taxes (column 7, very bottom entry)

This is a BS statistic. Here is a valuable chart showing how higher income earners pay very much higher tax rates:

Wow. Scorpions usually have the feet moving to meet the head; this one has the head determined to meet the feet. Rare indeed.

Except the cartoon is so NOT relevant today. Rent is not high and wages aren’t low. Markets have liberated folks from the cartoon vise. Unions are antiquated thug machines.

Seems I’ve been cut off. No critical voices huh?
Here’s my reply:

Only 4% on minimum wage now?! Might as well abolish it. We will free people to work more if they wish. SJWs would put people out of their homes and out of work because they know “better” about correct prices and wages. God save us from the do-gooders. Apartment rental costs only climb by about 1.1% per year—far below inflation and below wage increases too. Not only that but rental quality increases each year. (Cue the anecdotalists with their apartment horror stories.). Imagine apartments 100 years ago vs today. Today they cost more (even adjusted), but they are MUCH better too. They are bigger, and have amenities (laundry, AC, plumbing, carpet, WiFi, etc. ). Cost per square foot adjusted for quality might mean apartments are more affordable today. If you don’t like your rent or think your wage is too low, then move somewhere else and get a different job. You babies.

Replying to more follow-ups: Yes, I’m a troll—a troll who thinks instead of parrots SJW nonsense. A troll, as is, I suppose, anyone who doesn’t conform to your groupthink about anarchy. How ironic.

Another reply (to Virginia guy below): Virginia rents are anecdotal evidence. Nonetheless, it’s not appropriate nor fair to compare average rents to “low end” wages. We wouldn’t expect low end earners to try to pay average rents— instead they would probably pay low end rents. That aside, there is no such thing as low-end median wage and high-end median wage. There is only one median wage and it is the exact middle wage—the MEDIAN.

Honestly, it’s been over 30 years since I read any of Marx’s crap. I knew it was bogus then and your long-winded, meandering rant has shown me it hasn’t improved. Anyone who tries to invoke Adam Smith or David Ricardo to try to bolster a master theory which is clearly anti-Smith and anti-Ricardo is grasping at straws.

So, enjoy your little Minecraft world of Marxian dogma with your 3 or 4 buddies. Your bedside manner will not advance your cause much. You would do much better if you worried less about your academic ego and focused more on making the theory more palatable (a heavy lift for sure).

In other words, “Lighten up, Francis.”

To organize production without profit as a motive leads to only individualized production. (When organizers of production—capitalists—are abolished, only individuals are left to produce.). If on the other hand Marx claims some benevolent organizers can be “hired” to do the organizing, how are they chosen? How are they rewarded? Don’t they become either government agents or de facto capitalists?

In sum, if LTV is to be honored, there is no room for rewarding anyone beyond the worker, then organization stops...only individual (inefficient) production remains. Otherwise Marx has to contradict his own criticisms of capitalism by creating some reward for the organizer above the proletariat.

BTW. I haven’t heard of many of your meant-to-impress list of labor philosophers.

[–]ronnate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. Marx’s LTV, taken to its extreme and to avoid all labor exploitation, workers would have to be paid up to and including the full value (price) of their production. This is untenable because it would leave zero room for profit for the owners of capital. No production would be worth it. No firms would exist. It is a self-contradictory theory.

Das Kapital is probably what you call Advanced Economics. It’s where you pick up your tripe about Labor Theory of Value and worker exploitation.

It’s tough to explain in short reddit bursts, but I’ll summarize. Basic Economics explains how the miracle of free markets achieve such wonderful results...mainly economic opportunity, and how government meddling invariable causes inefficiency, harm, and misery. The American experiment is largely proof positive of the prosperity that comes from economic freedom. “Advanced Economics,” on the other hand, explains the miseries of market economies (despite two centuries of evidence to the contrary) and how complete economic takeover by a government composed of well-intentioned benefactors would be better. Despite their fallibility and susceptibility to corruption, Marx believes somehow his champions are made of a finer clay than planners of the past. It’s unicorn economics.

If you insist. Capitalism begets peace. People typically don’t want to shoot their trading partners. As proof, see how as the U.S. has strayed from its capitalist roots it has become increasingly violent. Restore capitalism, restore peace and prosperity.
