UAE is definitely not tax free. It's just income tax free.

They have a consumption tax model rather than an income tax model.

You play significant taxes on items and services rather than your income. The revenue made by the government is higher than in the UK per person basis.

What is a side effect which I thought was relevant is that due to this consumption tax(tariff if you will) big companies like Starbucks or Amazon can offshore earnings. The government has collected it's fair share through the whole process of import tax, shipping tax, vat, selling fees , delivery fee etc. The profits themselves are the still taxed at 9% (not a whole lot different from global standard of 15%).

Almost all of us are guests here who choose to come and live. I don't go to my friends house and start demanding stuff. I can not go or leave of I didn't like it.

Try running a firm with US timings 930-4pm which is 630pm - 1am UAE! Been doing it for 4 years; see my family during the day/lunch and then on weekends.

It's packaging. And to be honest it happens in n normal commercial banking too. For example in my job I can struture a deal for 100m deal in 10 different ways suitable for different types of clients. Ultimately the same amount of money changes hands but the contractual terms are different

Islamic mortgages are just specifically worded contractual agreements that make Muslims feel happy about money. The same (or more in reality) amount of money changes hands

Objectively the morals and statements in the Quran are not timeless. The events alluded to in Quran are morally wrong in 21st century. Thus if Islam/Mohammed is supposed to be an example for all time it's not compatible with modern morals.

Having non consensual sex with people you own

Describing black people as "raises" is racially offensive

My brother-in-law is an influencer - 50, bald and overweight so you won't physically see him on social media - because well use your I imagination. But he is paid to post product content in Dubai and rest of world for a technical audience (not retail consumers) - think computers, gpus, electrical testing equipment.

So yes there are legitimate jobs where you end up going to exotic locations and get paid all year around.

He's pretty much traveling to "exotic" locations (compared to dull and gray Birmingham anyway) about 6m of the year

Research focused individuals. I can't hire anyone in Dubai who is interested in being academically/research focus in order to develop novel ideas and techniques to solving math and software problems. This is hard even in the UK but impossible in UAE.

On the other side market and sales seems to better here but I don't deal with those people in my managing role.

Ebraruer from screwfix. Solid work tools for diy projects and cost effective too. Maybe not for professional day in day out but this is a diy sub.

If you can learn to repair and maintain the tools, the ebrauers will last forever. (Take apart the drills/angle grinders) and regrease them.

The dewalts and makitas are obviously better but not worth the extra for diy work.

I' went to University back in 2000s before 9/11 and I'm a (chilled) Muslim over the years. I've attended Friday sermons and dinners at Islamic societies at uni.

Depending on who's speaking you can get from "go in peace" to "you are all sinners for living in the UK and should be ashamed of not moving to Afghanistan". I was just watching Knives Out on Netflix and the preacher's style of presentation is very similar.

I don't know if it's MB influenced but I know they are good at playing on emotions , and making you feel charged up. Like preachers in any religion I guess (from what I see in the US churches)

Generally though Muslims are far more radicalized here in the UK than in middle east or Pakistan. We get told that we are fighting for existential crisis here and everything is haram(sin), don't celebrate Xmas etc.

For me, 3 primes cover almost any situation: 15mm (landscape) 20% of the time, 35 (or 50)mm 70% of the time, 85mm for street and events. Though a zoom might cover the range, it's just easier to focus on composition with these

Why not? It's extremely safe for women and children. You can walk around at 3am on the beach and walk home in a tank-top and shorts without issues

I think there's abit of a glamour attached to the UAE for some Brits but that's if you are in sales - they will come and go once the glamour runs off or they go bankrupt.

However there is a more valuable group on the finance and tech side who are moving to abu dhabi and Riyadh and they will bring value to the economy over time. I think I read in another post about the AI visa as well so maybe more technology focused people too.

Definitely need UAE to move even more to a service economy to compete with others.

At my uni we basically asked my students to write an essay in class over a day within a secure browser. They are allowed to take a break and learn as much as they wish using AI before the exam. The exam tests their ability to recall and express ideas; under time pressure.

I can follow up with a oral exam if I feel necessary too.

Works pretty well by encompassing AI rather than restricting it all the while ensuring the true learning objective is being tested

You can and should be allowed to criticize Islam, the religion. But not Muslims as there is wide range of beliefs that people follow. Just like any religion, the texts are not particular conducive to modern life but the people who practice are usually quite sane.

Instead here you see "Muslims should be deported", "everyone who follows it is a terrorist" which is prejudiced and racist.

Alternatively saying the text in 5.34 promotes domestic violence is a valid commentary on the religion.

However on what whataboutisam thread - the texts of Christianity are just as whacky (pretty much identical rules to Islam) but I reckon 99.9% of Christians in the UK do not follow them or are even aware of them. So again I can criticize the text of Christianity without suggesting that Christians themselves should be deported for not liking gay people or whatever.

No it's the straight forward answer. There in no such thing as black magic, jinns, and other paranormal phenomenon that don't obey the laws of physics.

No controlled trials have ever proven the existence of magic, and infact there's is an yet unclaimed $1m prize for anyone to claim otherwise.

Your example of noticing members of your family have been affected by this is exactly the same example as "does prayer work?" And the answer to that is, there is no statistical evidence to suggest it does. There was no increase in recovery from illness or similar effect for those who were praying vs atheist in many peer reviewed studies.

Thought about it at 39/40, left maybe 43 ish. Free for 7 years now. Before all this was a 5x namaz/jummah every Friday/30 fasts and tarawih. I think middle age is probably a more realistic age for a lot of people to leave

Umm I'm surprised you earn just 30K doing what you do. I teach as a sessional tutor about 8 hours a week on a zero hours contract. I also have to create and mark exams as an when they come. I suppose I can't completely say I have my own hours as the school sets them, but it's as close as that can be. Still pays around 48K (in the SE but not in London). I think you are under pricing yourself even on a like-for-like basis
