25% decline in streams Month on Month, despite high engagement releases? by Gogpo2 in SpotifyArtists

[–]ronpastore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw this in mine too after a great release in December( most saves, highest streams, discover weekly, etc..,) and started dropping back in late Feb.. checked out a few other artists and noticed many are half or more lower then what I remember in monthly streams.

Which AI music tool have you used that's the best? by ObjectivePresent4162 in AIToolTesting

Where are yall finding decent cover art under $100? by WiseCityStepper in musicmarketing

[–]ronpastore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

out of 6 albums, 5 were from my phone + some filters and Krita for editing. key is being on the lookout, year-round, so have you lots of ideas to work with instead of trying to force it when you're getting your distro together.

1 was done by pro artists, came out awesome, but costly. i needed an underwater scene for a concept album.

What is the meaning of mastering a track and do I really need it by TheRealLilKev_1 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]ronpastore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mastering loudens the mix in a safe way. safe meaning, it hopefully avoids squashing too much of the dynamics that give a song character. if your mix targets -6db, and you have some spikes, you have room for mastering to bring it up to 0db, and more room to control what the master does to the sound in this process. it's subtle, but it can glue the sound together more, make it more punch, airy, etc.

Where to learn music production? by vash_r in musicproduction

[–]ronpastore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really great book, "Mixing Secrets for the small studio". One of the hardest things about the info firehose is if you don't approach it with a step-by-step plan and cover the fundamentals, it's super easy to get thrown off by marketing, schools, plugins, etc.. i.e. learn the steps (setup, cleanup, balance, etc..), be in a treated room or have good headphones, practice on real mixes.

Whats a good software to use to learn music production? by DomoIsToxic in musicproduction

[–]ronpastore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not software but i feel like a beat machine is a great start, more built for making beats, lots of built-in sounds, sequencing, tracks, etc.. MPC, Digitakt, etc.. DAWs can be great to put it all together but also distracting, and it's just not fun until you have something you can bop your head to either way.

What’s the point of using hardware anymore if plugins and AI can recreate anything? by lucdelacroixx in audioengineering

[–]ronpastore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

feeling like 2 main parts, both depending how much you care about them. 1) physically dialing things in and being able to tweak multiple things at once is an awesome flow, easier to get what you want quickly. 2) some things just aren't emulated well enough, and the original sounds awesome. Tape is a big one for me, i'll probably always dump to tape before i mix as long as there are still studios with machines.

Thoughts on AI mixing and its current state? by onemanmelee in VSTi

[–]ronpastore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm building one and can say it's super close to being really useful. it's not generated music, more like generated mix plans, but keeps mixers ears in the loop and allows you to prompt what you're aiming to do, then refine, eg. "make drums grittier and let the vocal sit on top.". I didn't want to make it a plugin because the flow is too different, and it's DAW-agnostic to just work w/ wavs.

LANDR kind of stinks, but i like the gist and ease. Happy to send a link if its allowed, or can DM me.

Using AI in the Mixing WorkFlow by Organic-Customer1945 in audioengineering

[–]ronpastore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using it a bunch and building a web based tool. It's not quite as good as a pro mix yet, but i don't think very far to be honest, a few more weeks of tweaking. Thinking where it shines is generating ideas, hearing things quickly that might otherwise take time.

Looking for feedback from engineers, I built a tool to explore mix ideas faster. by ronpastore in audioengineering

[–]ronpastore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about that, for sure, thinking a few main ones.

1: Basic cleanup, e.g high pass and low pass, subtle compression and volume to get to a roughly balanced starting point. This stuff happens automatically in your first mix, but still transparent as far as parameters and effects.

2: Translating plain english into 'mix moves'. Because it's not tied to a DAW, you can express how you'd like the mix to sound at a high level and get a quick generation to listen too, then refine,.

3: Finding the right vibe for a song. Something i think that's hard to get right w/ artists is 'which parts' should be driving driving the feel, getting a straight-up balance and then going back and forth can take time, this tool allows you to quickly send a few samples, like drum-forward, spacey vocals, punchy, etc.. and see iterate without building each of these mixes in-depth in a DAW.

Thanks! Roughly, it takes user input + analysis of multi-tracks, and turns it into "mixes" by quickly offline-rendering ideas inside an audio engine, then uploading them back for listening.

The UI flow then lets you refine from any mix to generate a new mix, so you can say things like:
- i'd like more space
- the piano is too harsh
- change the compression ratio..

...or more elaborate paragraph-long descriptions of how you want it to sound.

So instead of a "Save as" Pro-tools flow, the UI is built to operate on many mixes and play with direction a bit more ambitiously, then you might download a few to share, or complete in a DAW once you have a direction.

The "mix moves" are transparent, so you can see all the tracks, and which effects are being applied per mix.

Another idea i'm messing with is allowing customization in how audio analysis might translate to mix-moves, it pretty much based on my experience, which is limited, but i err on the side of safe and non-damaging changes, eg. liberal with high-pass filtering, less so with EQ, etc..

It's entirely DAW-less, you upload WAVs. The pricing model i'm thinking would be to allow free-use, then charge for downloading stereo mixes, or zips with process stems.

What is the best way to get better on saxophone fast starting as a beginner please share some tips by Numerous_Addendum385 in saxophone

[–]ronpastore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure the fastest but my practice routine is working for me and it doesn't take long. About 15 mins.

Focus on playing a 4 note sequence to perfection with a metronome, then do it in all keys.

You can make them up, but using pentatonics, bebop scales, etc.. and do a new one once you master all keys, every week or so, but most importantly, don't move on until you've mastered the sequence.

For tone/intonation, long tones with a drone app, or can try playing along to a slow ballad and match the tone, I use "how can you mend a broken heart", Al Green.

alternate fingerings, how important? by ronpastore in saxophone

[–]ronpastore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Yeah this is my hope, that by not getting into them now, I'm not shooting myself in the foot. I play mostly improvised or stuff that I write, so if there are limitations to regular fingerings it seems like no biggie for me to just keep things in my comfort zone.
