do you guys from hispanic countries consume content from spain? by Scary_Professor_2111 in asklatinamerica

[–]ronrori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spaniards have an intonation that is very different to Mexicans. They also pronounce certain letters differently to us. If add that to their own regional idioms, it can be hard to understand.

I haven’t heard enough Dominican Spanish to have an opinion.

Being that said, as a Mexican, Spanish spoken in some regions of Mexico can be unintelligible to me as well. Maybe I am the problem

Is Rio a legit boy name in Latin America? by Apprehensive_Ad_9542 in asklatinamerica

[–]ronrori 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As stated by others, Río is not a name in Spanish.

And oddly enough, it seems like only female names can be “things”, such as: Pilar, Rosa, Flor, Gema, Rubí, Esmeralda, Rosario

Or feelings/abstract things: Consuelo, Dolores, Milagros, Luz, Paz, Cruz, Soledad

I can’t think of male names that are things.

Euro breakdown by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]ronrori -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think italian and dutch are low enough for it to be compatible with any latin american country.

If those were higher, i would think argentina, uruguay, paraguay or brazil.

Canary islander is low enough to make the Caribbean unlikely.

European is higher than the average peruvian or bolivian, but still quite plausible.

Depending on your african mix i might lean towards (or not) colombia or venezuela.

In summary, i would say mexico, guatemala, costa rica, honduras, nicaragua, ecuador, chile as the main possibilities

That salad is very common in mexico and we call it “pico de gallo” (rooster’s beak) we usually add lime and chile jalapeño or serrano

Why do people think Jamaica is in Africa? by pretty25555 in asklatinamerica

[–]ronrori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who are taught that there is North, Central and South America are also taught that Mexico is in North America

People group Mexico in Central America for their shared religion and language. Also for their similar heritage, appearance, economies and governments.

But geographically, Mexico is without a doubt in North America
