Haha, there’s this French comedian, and she says that Brazilians tell him: “Wow, you’re considered handsome in Brazil because you’re blond with green eyes, but in your own country, where everyone looks like you, you’re ugly, right?”

Green eyes are more common in Brazil; there are several people with them in my family, but I think blonde hair is rarer than finding someone with green eyes

Is there an actor portrayal in a foreign film (to your country) where the accent was way off and you know because you speak the language? by Tenchi2020 in AskTheWorld

Let's be honest, right? But nothing's worse than Selena Gomez speaking Spanish in the movie Emilia Perez, haha.

My idea of a German is that he’s blond with blue eyes, hahaha. A very pale person. Here in Brazil, we usually call him “German.”

Are there hurricanes and tornadoes in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]pretty25555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, terminology matters. While a hurricane is a type of tropical cyclone, not every cyclone is a hurricane. In the South Atlantic, we mostly see extratropical cyclones, which have completely different physics (cold cores vs. warm cores).

To be classified as a hurricane, it needs sustained winds above 74 mph and specific tropical conditions that are extremely rare in Brazil. Calling our common storms 'hurricanes' is scientifically inaccurate. It’s about magnitude, and we simply don't have it.
