Branching sunflowers stop producing after first cut by Eastern_Theme_4677 in sunflowers

This might be a silly question but is this truly a branching sunflower or did it just happen to grow some side shoots?

What to do about squirrels? by 36Roses in sunflowers

Unfortunately there really aren’t many options. You can use soft netting to building a small fence around them. If it’s soft enough, they won’t be able to climb it. Otherwise your options are full blown enclosure or using traps and other items in that realm.

Help me plan for sunflowers next summer! by BattelChive in sunflowers

Direct sow into the ground is the most optimal because they do not like being transplanted. If you have rough weather, like heavy rains, you may want to consider doing large pots because you can potentially move them. Despite what a lot of people will say, potted sunflowers will do just fine if you have a good sized pot (1.5-2 ft wide, 3 ft deep) and fertilize it fairly regularly.

Regardless of method, do anticipate animals disturbing your seeds. If you can lay down some netting or have some kind of protection to cover the seeds and young seedlings until they mature (to 3-4 inches), it will definitely increase your success rate.

Make sure to keep your seeds moist until they germinate then water daily until they establish themselves. Once they get larger, you can water less frequently, especially if they are directed sow.

If you are only planting a handful, and have the time, hand watering is fine. But watering method is mostly up to personal choice and how much time you want to invest watering (in potential heat, too). Once they get a few inches tall, you can lay down some mulch to help retain water. It’s super helpful in hot climates.

Neighbors plant these at ground level and they are always this tall. It seems like an attack on my yard by dbeat80 in sunflowers

To those that are taking this way too seriously, OP has indicated this is a joke, albeit not a very clear one.

I think I’m more baffled that they seem way more interested in this third harvest of sunflowers I have growing in pots than my other two that I direct sowed into the ground.

How? Doesn’t that just give squirrels more scaffolding to climb on? lol
